Being a complete book-lover and voracious reader, I was surprised that Heather Webber's name was unknown to me before receiving Truly, Deeply. The cover copy likened the work of Heather Webber to that of Jennifer Crusie and Janet Evanovich. Both authors that I read and love. The review snippet on the front cover from Charlaine Harris describing the book as entertaining also had me fairly excited. If a talent like Charlaine Harris liked it, then it must be good.
Lucy Valentine is a delightfully funny and interesting protagonist. From page one I was hooked by her quirky attitude, humorous dialog and the tasteful and intriguing way her psychic ability is written into the story. The author has done an excellent job of fleshing out he character and giving her endearing qualities and prospectives that make her very likeable and make you really care about the direction the story is taking.
What is not to like about a girl who lives with a three legged cat, takes in a friend in need and can find your perfect mate?
Lucy juggles a budding romance, her first foray into the family business and a never-ending string of mishaps, misunderstandings and misdirections. After being thrust into the family business by an interesting turn of events, Lucy jumps in with both feet and immediately falls into a situation that requires some detective work.
Enter Sean, an ex-firefighter with a secret. He is learning to be a private investigator and making good use of his skills while getting closer to Lucy.
The story-line moves nicely with all the right amounts of mystery, suspense and a bit of flirtatious fun. According to Heather Webber's website and blog, Truly, Madly is the first novel in a series of three. I can hardly wait to see what develops with Sean, how Lucy fares in the family business and what other exploits she will have.
Truly, Deeply is scheduled to be on sale in February of 2010. You can read more about this and other books by Heather Webber at her website or blog.
