Book Review: Why We Want You to Be Rich by Donald Trump & Robert Kiyosaki

Two Men, One Message About Being Rich

Marie M. Daniels
Two best selling authors and men known for their wealth came together to write the book, Why We Want You to Be Rich. Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki published this book in 2006. It has been a few years since they wrote this book together. What they did was paint a gloomy outlook for America. The Authors predicted that the U.S. economy was headed for a down turn, and as you know they were absolutely right. They knew because they study the global economy and take note of how things are going.

Robert and Donald know America's history of money, the gold standard and adding in how much national debt the government has. They both have a good idea of what is going on around them. They advise anyone who wants to be rich to study those things also. The authors want you to be rich because then you will be an asset to the country. If you are not an asset then you are likely a drain on the economy and helping to put it deeper in debt.

Trump and Kiyosaki want you to have a financial education but not just so you know how to balance your checkbook. The education is more for taking control of your finances and knowing what the markets are doing and how it affects your money. They speak of not blindly following a financial advisor, but to make sure they know what they are actually doing. Making sure the financial advisors are also investing in things that they would recommend to you. If you can't find an advisor that meets the above requirements then you need to study and learn to become your own financial advisor.

The beginning of the book was somewhat redundant and somewhat boring. With over 300 pages the book had plenty of time to get more interesting and it did. You get to learn about Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki's history and how their childhood has affected the kind of investors they are today.

You may be disappointed to find that the authors don't tell you how to get rich in this book. But that wasn't the title or their goal anyway; they do ask you to start thinking for yourself. To get a financial education and start investing after you have acquired knowledge in the area where you have and interest. Both men are investors in real estate and speak of it fondly, but note that it may not be for everyone.

The book tells that many people are afraid of investing in real estate because it is risky. I felt like my money would be safer in stocks or mutual funds because I thought they were safer. After reading the book I feel like if you are educated enough in real estate then it could be safer than stocks. They get the point across that if you get a financial education then you will know when there are good deals in real estate. If you really know how it works real estate won't be as risky as you once thought.

My rating is a 4 out of 5 stars for the book Why We Want You to Be Rich. Robert Kiyosaki is an excellent writer and an international best seller. Trump did contribute but did not write the same volume as Kiyosaki had. Although Robert was very redundant making sure we knew about all of his Rich Dad Poor Dad products and the Cashflow game. One nice thing is that a number of Kiyosaki's resources can be found for free on his website. If you want to change your life and be rich they say it likely won't happen overnight. You have to educate yourself and invest then you could be rich. If you are up for a challenge to be rich you may want to check out this book.

Good review. Some people think they want to be rich. But it's more of a responsibility than most realize. I'm glad the knowledge of Donald Trump got to mingle with the story-telling ability of Robert Kiyosaki.
