Book Review - Wisdom Walk: Nine Practices for Creating Peace and Balance from the World's Spiritual Traditions
I wasn't expecting this book so receiving it came as a surprise, but as they say, not all surprises are bad. Within this book, ordained minister, Sage Bennet, takes us on a spiritual journey through the practices and traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Native American Spirituality, Taoism, and the New Thought movement.
This book is a wonder and breath of fresh air to read, as it opens our eyes to insights from fellow religions that we may have never noticed before. Being an eclectic Pagan, I have always pulled ideas and practices from other traditions to create my own spiritual practice, but it's nice to see a book around that really advocates that no matter what your beliefs are, there is nothing wrong with borrowing an idea from somewhere else to incorporate into your individual spirituality.
You will also enjoy the anecdotes within each section, as well. I loved, 'Before Dawn', in the Hinduism chapter. They truly help to see how the practices fit into everyday life of a practitioner.
I would have liked to have seen something within the book on the New Age or Neo-Pagan traditions, as these also contain much wisdom as well but normally gets thrown off as 'devil worship,' when we believe many of the same things as the Native Americans, Hindus and Buddhists. Overall, this book does give an incredibly insightful look within the religions of the world and hopefully can and will be used as an aid to embracing each other, no matter our creed and justly helps to create balance and reduced stress within your life.
