Book Review: World War II Heroes of Southern Delaware

A Stunning Mixture of History and Honor to the Men and Women Who Served

R.L. Spence
Many Americans learn about the events of WWII through history books in school, or documentaries on the History Channel. The historians put their own views and spins on the events that took place, the expert scientists, and psychologist try to convey the feelings and effects that the Second World War had on us as a people.

Sitting here now, I find it hard to fathom that none of these, so called experts, could hit the mark as well as one author and his goal of honoring the men and women who played a part in the actual events.

James Diehl's book, World War II Heroes of Southern Delaware, takes the events of the World War II era and shows them in a light like no other. It is based on real quotes, from real veterans, right in his community.

Enlisted men, drafted men, and even a woman who worked a munitions plant during the war effort grace the pages of this small but well deserved tribute. There are pictures of the people who are, quite literally, telling you their stories of the war. Stories that no history book can tell you, emotions and events that no specialist can describe.

Those lucky enough to have family members still around to tell these stories know what it is like. I other the other hand have never been so fortunate. This book to me was like getting to hear the stories of my great grandparents, whom I never had the chance to get to know.

If you love history, real honest history, then this is a book you'll enjoy. The veterans may live in Southern Delaware, but there stories are that of a nation. They were proud to take up their responsibility and do what was needed for our safety and for global freedom.

The website where you can order a copy of this, and pr-order the second installment due for release in 2011 also provides profile information on some of the veterans covered, and more information on Author James Diehl. It can be found at http://www.ww2-heroes.com/ .

As the comments of Mr. Diehl say on my autographed copy, "Please enjoy the stories of these true American heroes. Never forget their sacrifices!" ~ James Diehl

True heroes they are though they may never admit it themselves. Their stories are touching. I recommend this book with both thumbs up.
