Book Reviews: Sunday Brunch & Sunday Brunch Diaries

I recently had the opportunity to finish two good books: Sunday Brunch and Sunday Brunch Diaries. Both novels are by Norma L. Jarrett. The first book, Sunday Brunch, provides an introduction to the characters: Alexis Parker, Jermaine Richmond, Capri Sterling, Angel Capers, and Jewel Whitaker. Readers are taken through their world, their lives, friendship, and loves. In addition to this, you will see their spiritual strengths and weaknesses in their relationships with God. The women are friends from college who evolve into the women who are portrayed in the novel.

Alexis "Lexi" can be described as the leader of the group. She provides the spiritual foundation for the women, but tends to sell herself short in the same area. Jermaine is the one who appears to have it "all together", but looks can be deceiving. Capri is the no-nonsense friend who's lacking something herself. Angel has issues that she needs to overcome in order to grow into a better person. Lastly, there's Jewel, who one can view as self-absorbed with the desire to have all the material things she can possess.

Of course, Sunday Brunch leaves readers wondering, "What happened next?" So we have Sunday Brunch Diaries as a continuation of the first novel! The second novel allows readers to see the aftermath of decisions made, the life journeys, and continual friendship of these women.

Both novels are a good read. I found myself relating to some of the characters while having friends who relate to others. I recommend both novels to anyone who wants to laugh and experience the strong bond of sista-friends.
