Books Coming to the Big Screen

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak will be headed to the big screen in October of 2009 featuring Mark Ruffalo and Forrest Whitaker.

The next film in Twilight series, New Moon, based on the book by Stephanie Meyer will be released in November of 2009 with Dakota Fanning as an addition to the cast.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is scheduled to be in theaters in December of 2009 with Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz in leading roles.

Hilary Swank's production company 25 Films has gained the rights to the popular book Something Borrowed and its companion story Something Blue by Emily Giffin. It is rumored that Swank herself will star in the movie.

Johnny Depp will star in a movie adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland to come out in 2010 with Tim Burton directing.

Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to Sophie Kinsella's Can You Keep a Secret? Rumors are circulating that Kate Hudson will play the role of Emma, who confesses all her secrets to the passenger next to her on a plane only to find out he is her boss.

The Queen of Babble series by Meg Cabot, the author of The Princess Diaries, will be seen hitting the big screen starring Kristin Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Veronica Mars) as Lizzie Nichols.

The Rum Diary, an adaptation of the novel by Hunter S. Thompson will be released in 2010 starring Johnny Depp.

Kate Jacob's The Friday Night Knitting Club will be in theaters with Julia Roberts playing single mom and knitting store owner Georgia Walker who must deal with trials of raising a teenager in Manhattan and running a business.

The Giver by Lois Lowry is stated to come onto the big screen in 2011. Cast information has not been released yet.
