Books I Want to See on the Big Screen

I love to read, and I really enjoy a good movie. What I would like to see is a movie that has as much detail as the book I am reading. It seems like by the time the movie has come out I have already read the book, and then once I see the movie Hollywood has modified it and there isn't as much detail. Here are three of my favorite books that I would love to see on the big screen, and the cast I would love to see play them.

One of my favorite novels of all time is "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers. Francine has this unique ability to paint with words, so I felt like I could see the characters in place as I read this novel. This novel depicts the book of Hosea in the Old Testament scriptures, and is a hardy love story. The story is supposed to exemplify the love that God the Father has for the nation of Israel, and no matter how many times they turn their back on God, he continues to love them and redeem them back to himself. The novel though as Francine Rivers tells it is incredible because she turns it into a modern day story.

The novel version of this book tells us a story about a hardworking young man who is known for his reputation of loving God and living at peace with everyone. He is attractive, and has been searching for a wife. God tells him to go and love this woman he sees as he passes by a brothel. He questions God as if to say, "I have been faithful to you, and I want to have a family and you want me to go and love this girl that lives as whore?" God impresses upon him to do so, so he goes to the brothel and pays for her and takes her home. She doesn't know what to do with a man who wants her for her, and not for what she can give him physically. Once you pick this book up and go through the story, you can feel this man's hear t ache as he goes to get her back time and again when she runs back to her old life.

This story no doubt, would need an award winning cast. The woman to play the harlot, Gomer, would have to be none other than Angelina Jolie. She can be soft, and play a seductress at the same time. The man to buy her back time and again showing all the emotions that are stirred up would have to be her beloved Brad Pitt. Seeing him play such different characters, I would love to see him be the one to play this man, because I would love to see the real emotion as he steps into the green room on this character.

The second book I would love to see made into a Hollywood film is "Best Friends", by Martha Moody. This book is in itself a masterpiece, and with her first book out being a best seller this film would definitely make it big. This book is based upon a true story between two young, ambitious girls who meet their freshman year in college. These two girls are the most unlikely candidates to become friends but somehow they do it, complementing each other the whole way. Clare Mann from Ohio takes walks on the wild side of life with very little family involvement, and makes friends with Sally Rose who is the daughter of a wealthy man in California who loves to interfere between the two but remains just far enough away to overlook their differences.

I would love to see Clare Mann played by Diane Keaton, because of her ability to play a high powered business woman and a woman who desires relationships. I believe her personality fits this character to a tee. Sally Rose would be best played by Bette Midler. She seems a little more unconventional like Sally Rose, flying by the seat of her pants and has captured many a bad relationship in her films like Beaches.

Last but not least, is the riveting novel, "The Secrets She Left Behind", by Diane Chamberlain. This novel was nothing short of fabulous, and I love stories written from point of view. The story is based on the life of a young man who finds out that who he thought was his real dad is not, and to make it worse he discovers his biological father is deceased. In the same year, he ends up getting trapped in a fire that was actually set by his sister Maggie, who had recently gotten out of jail. The only person that he has right now is his mother Sara, who has been battling secrets her whole life and is currently missing. One afternoon she shows up and reveals the trail of secrets that would change both their lives forever.

This story is full of emotion, but could bring a strong cast of characters to make a powerful film. The teenage Keith Weston I believe could be played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Despite his age, he has a baby face and with what the makeup teams can do in Hollywood there is no challenge on this one. The soul of his mother Sara would be played well by Jodi Foster. In the book, Sara and her son live in a rundown trailer, and don't have a lot of money. Sara works at a café as a waitress and drives a car that is about to fall apart but she is determined to make it. I could actually visualize Jodi Foster in that character as I was reading the book. As for his cousin Maggie who started the fire that left him scarred and angry, I would definitely give that part to Christina Ricci. There is just something about her that seems so harmless, yet capable of causing trouble. Her role in this film would certainly help her pay her income tax bill from 2009!
