Boone and Crockett- the Carolina Connection
Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett Both Spent Time in North Carolina
Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett were not Hollywood characters and were indeed real people. Boone and Crocket's Carolina connection comes from the fact that both of them spend time living in North Carolina.
Daniel Boone even has the town of Boone named after him. Boone North Carolina is a nice mountain town and the home of Appalachian State University. Daniel Boone spent considerable time in the Yadkin Valley and in particular the town of Salisbury North Carolina which I happen to live near.
According to Newrivernotes.com Daniel Boone's fighting of Indians in Kentucky greatly helped the revolutionary war efforts in North Carolina by keeping allies of the British from joining the fighting on their side in the Carolinas. The website has some great information about Daniel Boone's connections to North Carolina.
Davey Crockett is best known as a former Tennessee resident who died at the Alamo in Texas. He was a larger than life figure even in his own time and had been a representative of Tennessee in Washington D.C.
Davey Crockett spent time living in North Carolina as Eastern Tennessee was part of NC at one time. Though Daniel Boone and David Crockett did live in the same time period I don't think they ever met. If they did I couldn't find a reference to it. But Boone and Crockett did share the Carolina connection and probably hunted in some of the same places.
As a history buff I find if fascinating that Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett lived in the same state that I do. I love the fact that I have walked over some of the same ground as Daniel Boone in particular who spent much more time in North Carolina than Crockett did.

Post a CommentDan'l Boone is one of my heroes despite his recurring issues with government.
I am related to Davey Crockett. The last name was spelled differently in France. Great writing as always!
Great reporting, so sad he died this week, thanks!
thanks for the great info
Great info! So sad about Fess Parker passing this week...
Thanks. Fess Parker is a favorite of mine also.
Interesting article. I'm working on my family's genealogy, and have some ancestors from Kentucky and Virginia. My cousin said she thought we were related to Daniel Boone. I haven't run across the connection yet, but I'm looking for it!
Awesome bit of info here. A history buff myself, I've always meant to read up more on these two. Thanks, Randy.
Excellent read on two great men, true pioneers in every sense of the word (the beech tree in NE Tenn where Boone's initials have been carved is said to still exist).
Fun read. I think if I looked hard, I could find the old coonskin hats we had as kids.
