Borat ... A Great Success!!

My Name a Borat, Nice to Meet You!

Brady Ratchford
"Great Success!" One of the more prominent lines of the movie can sum up the turn out of the latest Sacha Baron Cohen film, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.' Many people have quickly begun calling this movie one of the funniest movies of all time, and I agree, it was hilarious. 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, tells a story of a Kazakh journalist who makes a journey to the "U S and A" to learn lessons to bring back to his country of Kazakhstan to make it better.

Borat's journey begins in New York where he begins learning the American Way. He is not accustomed to life in American and the cultural differences are vast. One night is his hotel room he is watching TV and stumbles across Baywatch and more importantly Pamela Anderson. He convinces his manager that they need to travel to California so he can meet Pamela and marry her. Along the trip, they stop in many cities across America and conduct their documentary.

This is a hilarious journey of Borat and his manager Azamat and they attempt to learn lessons from American culture. Borat attempts to learn how to drive, purchase a car, learn proper etiquette, and even sings the national anthem at a rodeo event. Sacha Baron Cohen does a marvelous job throughout the entire movie playing the character of Borat and many experts have dubbed him to be a genius.

Borat learns many lessons while he is in American and takes those lessons back with him to Kazakhstan where he teaches everyone the American way. If you are the type of person that enjoys some crude humor, then this is a must see for you. The movie is filled with non stop laughs from the opening song to the ending scene. Basically, Sacha Baron Cohen dupes people into doing things they normally wouldn't do in order to make his film.

What makes this film even funnier is that fact that most if not all of it is completely on the fly actual recordings of people who do not know they are going to be on a highly successful movie. The people that 'Borat' encounters really do think he is producing a documentary for a foreign country when in fact he is making a fool out of both him and them. This is a funny as has been advertised and is a must see unless you are not a big fan of the crude humor. I give it an A+, and like Borat would say, it was definitely a 'Great Success!'

I agree with S. Thompson and Dr. Leader. I've read enough reviews about this movie to know that I don't want to see it. There are a number of lawsuits out against "Borat", and they're not all being brought by ignorant bigots. The fact that this movie is a huge moneymaker bodes ill for this society. In a world exploding with ethnically based violence, the last thing we need is a vile and incendiary depiction of the worst in human nature.

The villagers that are fuiling suit were not Americans. Keep the icecream truck parked.

Well-written article, Mr. Ratchford. The movie doesn't sound very appealing, however. Making fun of fellow Americans isn't my idea of humor and lying to people to further your own ends isn't right in any field of endeavor. Agaric, you know plenty about "overbolown, pompous balls", I'm sure. I trust you have left America by now, since you hate it so much.

I have to agree with Agaric on this one. Granted, Cohen's tactics may be questionable, but the movie served its purpose, which Agaric so delicately described. It is a wake-up call to America that we cannot take lightly.

I do not think this guy is funny and he is quite annoying.

  • S. Thompson 11/24/2006

I refuse to see this movie. At a time like this, why should we be making fun of Americans? I'd be furious if I was one of the people who was "duped" into believing that the movie was a documentary.

Seems like "Borat" has caused more trouble than it was worth. I was reading an article on MSN News about villagers filing suit because they were told "Borat" was a documentary, which it was not, and they were "exploited." I'm sure it won't end there, though. I haven't seen the film, because the previews weren't enough to lure me, however, this is a good article. Good work.

This movie is a bad film, ill concieved. The people in the film are victims. This movie is not a great success. I do applaud Mr Ratchford for expressing himself so well. His review far outclasses the movie he is reviewing. Please write more.
