Border's "Low Fat Books" Reading List To...Slim Down??

CSW
Need to lose a few pounds for swimsuit season? Border's has completed a study which suggests what you read may impact your body's metabolism enough to help you shed a few pounds!

Oh! The joy of snuggling into my rocking chair, curling up with a good book and ...losing weight!

What??

According to Britain's Daily Mail, Border's has compiled a list of books dubbed "The Low Fat Book List" that is highlighted in the possible future book category: "Fat Burning Books"

Still not convinced?

Book Category Manager for Borders, Caroline Mileham attempted to assure skeptics as she stated,"The science is sound. Books that are written to thrill or excite will cause increased fat burning and pump out a much higher amount of slimming hormones as a result. If the idea catches on we are considering having a section dedicated to fat-burning books. Low Fat Books work the same way as drinking coffee causes an adrenaline rush. However, reading a pulsating bodice-ripper lacks the health negatives of caffeine."

The science is based on the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) which measures the energy burned while the body is in a resting state. As a person gets excited, the body gets an adrenaline rush, and distributes the fat burning hormone into the blood.

Science has learned that adrenaline not only lowers the appetite but also increases the metabolic rate. Think of the response your body gives during the startled "fight or flight" mode of thinking. The pulse quickens, the muscles tense, the body is cranked and ready for action.

Borders study suggests reading certain books will mimic the metabolic spike caused by real life action.

So there is a catch?

Yes! Of course there is a catch! Borders study shows that the reader reaps weight loss benefits from exciting, suspenseful books that cause the heart to pound. Basically, readers that want to burn more calories need to read more exciting books. Furthermore, shocking conclusions and heart wrenching action may give an additional jump to the calorie burning mechanism.

Hmmmmm! Makes sense logically, but ...
