Bored? Not Me!

There is No Shortage of New Things to Learn

R.C. Johnson
I have always found the words "I'm bored" to be somewhat irritating to me.

To bore someone is to worry that person by being dull or tiresome.

To be a bore is being a dull, tiresome person or thing.

To be bored is to be uninterested, fed up, tired of something or jaded.

No thanks to any of the three! As long as my brain is functioning in reasonably good order I'll have no part of the "I'm bored" syndrome that I so often hear expressed.

The concept of boredom

When illness sets in or an injury has occurred so that inactivity becomes an issue, I can understand that occupying one's time and/or mind might be a whole different matter. But since I am blessed with good health, I give great importance to actively pursuing avenues of learning and I purpose to do so fhroughout my allotted time on this earth.

Learning is the operative word for me.

The physical world

I don't even know where to start when thinking about the wonders that exist in this world that I occupy. I could study math, science, history, astronomy, physics, and language, just to name a few subjects, on a 24/7 basis and not cover one iota of the material that can be learned.

The spiritual world

I can read one verse of the Bible repeatedly for years and learn something new from it continually. So how could I claim boredom when there is not only the Bible to study but so many religions, books, concepts and ideas to explore concerning the spiritual realm?

Relationships

None of us exists in a vacuum. Therefore, learning ways to coexist in a hospitable fashion with family, friends, neighbors and even casual acquaintances can keep me learning on a continual basis.

My immediate surroundings

I could spend all day just figuring out everything about my house regarding such items as maintenance, construction, furnishings and plant care.

My household projects that are in progress: a 2,000 word puzzle depicting da Vinci's "The Last Supper"; deciding on paint colors to spruce up my patio planters this spring, for my small mechanical room and also for a wall corner unit in my dining area; evaluating the pros and cons of having a backsplash installed in my kitchen; choosing new prints to frame for the living room as well as sizes of frames for a fresh arrangement, and deciding on what type and color of occasional chair to purchase for my living room.

Issues pertaining to good health

It takes a lot of time and effort to regain wellness after a bout of illness or an injury. Spending time to find ways to avoid either of those situations will be most beneficial to me, I'm sure.

In conclusion

I could keep on listing topic after topic, but those that I have discussed are indicative of why learning is an inexhaustible topic for me.

I am blessed with family to enjoy, books to read, movies to watch, stories to write and entertaining to do.

Bored? Not for a second!
