Borrow or Rent an RV for Your First Trip

Cheryl Dennett
Camping in an RV is a wonderful way to save money while having the freedom to travel wherever you desire. But, once you decide want to try it, can you afford to buy a recreational vehicle and then realize it is not the one for you? Here are some tips to help you find a way to figure out for sure which RV is right for you and your family.

The best way to figure out what type of RV you want is to evaluate how and why you want to use it. Once you mace this decision, you will want to try out that type of RV before you make the commitment to buy one. If you can borrow one from a friend or family member. You may be able to find an RV in the same style as what you want and take it for a weekend trip. If you have several friends or family members who have different types of RV campers, that would be ideal.

Some are not lucky enough to have friends or family who have an RV and are willing to let it be borrowed. There are many companies that will rent you an RV. This business has grown into a large industry over the last few years. And, renting is a great way to take a cheaper vacation with your family and not have all the hassle of motels and airlines.

Renting an RV camper is much like renting a car. With more than 500 chain outlets that are specializing in renting RV campers, hopefully you will find one near you. There might also be car rental companies near you that include RV rentals. You will have to call them to find out.

The companies that specialize in renting RV campers will have a variety of models to choose from. You will be able to choose from the smaller, fold-up, tent campers to the large RV campers and fifth-wheels. You can look at them and see which might be the one for your needs. Some of these companies will even have a package to include all you will need for your trip. These things could include dishes, pots, pans, and even toilet chemicals. Providing the food will be your responsibility, of course.

The great thing about borrowing or renting an RV camper is that you can try it out without having to spend the money to buy it. If it is not the size or type that is right for you and your family, take it back. You can always try another type. Maybe you want a bedroom away from the kids. Maybe you want a bigger kitchen. No matter what you change your mind about, if you rent or borrow, you do not have to live with a vehicle that is not right for you.
