The Boston Ballet Company is currently in rehearsal for its upcoming Fall 2007 Season. Ballet fans will be excited to hear that the season to be presented includes some Balanchine choreography, "La Sylphide" and in time for Christmas, "The Nutcracker".

The season for the renowned dance company begins on October 12th with a one time only performance, billed as a Gala Event, that features all the principal dancers performing in one evening, along with the entire company and their current guest artists. Anyone that loves the Boston Ballet will realize what a special event this is. Tickets for the Night of Stars are currently on sale, call 800.447.7400 for info.

After the special one night event the company will be performing "Monumentum pro Gesualdo", "Movements for Piano and Orchestra", and "La Sylphide". The first work, "Monumentum pro Gesualdo", was originally choreographed by George Balanchine for the New York City Ballet in 1960. Set to music by Stravinsky it is a standard Balanchine work, with lots of proud, majestic movements. The second Balanchine work is "Movements for Piano and Orchestra", which was choreographed a few years later but has since been performed with Monumentum regularly. Rounding out the evening will be "La Sylphide". This ballet is staged by Sorella Englund after choreography by August Bournonville.

The "Monumentum pro Gesualdo", "Movements for Piano and Orchestra", "La Sylphide" performances take place October 18-28, 2007 at

The annual production of "The Nutcracker" will be held at the Opera House again this year, from 11/29-12/29/2007. If you haven't seen the new choreography by artistic director Mikko Nissinen, you will be pleasantly entertertained. Some of his changes have been the result of the change of venue and the differences with the stage, but nonetheless it's always fun to see an old classic given a new twist. Based on the traditional story by E.T.A. Hoffman, "The Nutcracker" follows Clara, a young German girl, as she dreams of a Nutcracker Prince that helps her defeat the Mouse King and rewards her with a trip to The Land of Snow and The Land of Sweets. The Boston Ballet has been performing The Nutcracker for forty years now, providing joy to the area through performances and dance opportunities. Each year the Ballet invites approximately 200 children from the Boston Ballet School to take part in the performances. What an amazing opportunity for an aspiring ballerina! Tickets for "The Nutcracker" can be purchased by calling 617.931.2787 or by visiting www.bostonballet.org.

If the fall season isn't enough...the Boston Ballet has an amazing Spring Program planned including "Romeo and Juliet", Three world premieres by new choreographers, "Swan Lake" and "Three Masterpieces" by Balanchine. Lots to look forward to from this talented, classical ballet company.Citi Performing Arts Center, Wang Theatre in Boston.
