Hacked-Off Hockey Fans Riot In Vancouver
It's always a shame to see a home team destroyed on their own ice. Not to mention, the term "post-game celebrations" takes on different meanings for various groups of fans, often dependant on location. For some, celebrating the big win might include a few beers, and maybe a few more after that. Some particularly enthused sports fans in Canada, however, apparently prefer to "celebrate" by setting parked cars on fire. Especially when their team has just been handed their asses in their own hometown.
Boston Bruins Named 2011 Stanley Cup Winners, New NHL Champs!
After the Boston Bruins won the 2011 Stanley Cup Wednesday night (June 15), disgruntled fans of the Canucks (and possibly a few overly-enthusiastic fans of the Boston team, but we can't be sure) reportedly ran amok in downtown Vancouver. According to this Forbes.com article, tens of thousands of hacked-off hockey fans were responsible for "setting cars on fire, throwing bottles and trashing cars" in their own city of Vancouver, the hub of British Columbia.
In terms of their win history, until Game 7 Wednesday night, the Boston Bruins had been without a Stanley Cup win or any NHL championship win since 1972. It took 39 years, but the boys from Beantown are bringing the Cup back to Boston with them tonight!
