Boston Celtics Beat Orlando Magic on Buzzer-Beater in Game 4 to Tie Series

Glen "Big Baby" Davis became a hero for the Boston Celtics as he made a 21-foot jump shot as time expired giving the Celtics a 95-94 win over the Orlando Magic and tying the series at two games each in this Eastern Conference semi-final matchup. Davis was replacing the injured Kevin Garnett who is out for the entire playoffs with a knee injury. Obviously, Davis was not the first option to take the shot but when Ray Allen and Paul Pierce were heavily guarded, an open Davis made the most of his chance. Davis finished the game with a playoff-high 21 points.

Buzzer-beaters and clutch shots are nothing new to the Boston Celtics. In their first round series against the Chicago Bulls, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce hit countless clutch shots to help Boston beat the Bulls in seven games. These seven games included four overtime games with seven overtime quarters. The Celtics-Bulls series will be remembered as the best first round series in NBA history.

The Celtics led 48 to 46 at halftime and the first half was closely contested with 13 lead changes. Boston opened up a 9 point lead late in the third quarter and had an 8 point lead after three quarters before the Magic made a furious comeback taking back the lead with a minute left in the fourth quarter. Rashard Lewis made a pair of free throws with 11.3 seconds remaining to give Orlando a one point lead before Davis hit the game-winner. According to Davis, this was the first time he has ever hit a game-winning shot and what a time to do it in the playoffs. This was really the first close game in the series, the other three were decided at halftime and were blowouts.

Paul Pierce led all scorers in Game 4 with 27 points and assisted Davis on the game-winning shot. Also for the Celtics, Rajon Rondo had 21 points with 14 rebounds. Ray Allen played the most minutes with 46, but was only 6 for 13 from the field and 0 for 5 from the three-point line finishing with 12 points. Every Boston starter scored in double-digits. For the Orlando Magic, Dwight Howard was the leading scorer with 23 points and 17 rebounds and Rashard Lewis added 22 points. Four Magic players also scored in double-digits.

The series now heads back to Boston for Game 5. Game 6 will be played in Orlando, and if necessary Game 7 will be in Boston.

The winner of this series will face off with Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Final. The Cavaliers have been undefeated through the first two rounds of the NBA Playoffs.
