Boston Celtics to Trade Glen Davis to Charlotte Bobcats Soon?

Sources Are Reporting that Boston and Charlotte Are Discussing Trade of Role Players

Could the Boston Celtics really trade Glen Davis? Rumors have the Boston Celtics trading Glen Davis to Charlotte for D.J. Augustin. ESPN says that they have sources that a deal is being discussed that mirrors this one, but they also caution against getting too excited as nothing is imminent. In the NBA though, a decision could be made on the spur of the moment, and it could certainly mean that there is a strong chance that Glen Davis will be leaving Boston very soon. The hitch in this possible deal is that Glen Davis makes too much money, so other players will have to become part of the deal to even things out. That's not a tough hurdle in the NBA though.

It seems that both of these players have fallen out of favor with their respective teams, and that the deal could be one that cleans up the locker room rather than serving as a huge improvement to either squad. Boston needs a good back-up point guard and it's possible that Augustin could fit that position, but he definitely won't make the splash that fans might be hoping to get in a trade. Then there are the Charlotte Bobcats, who also really need a good power forward, and may see something in Glen Davis that would make them want to trade for him. When Davis has a great game he can certainly fill up the stat sheet, but he has had some pretty awful games along the way as well.

So far this season, Glen Davis is averaging 5.7 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game for Boston. D.J. Augustin is averaging 5.8 points per game and 2.3 assists per game, so the stat lines should show that a blockbuster isn't going to happen in this deal. The question that immediately comes up, is whether Augustin is going to be packaged with someone to send to another team with one of their big three players. There had been a number of rumors that the Boston Celtics were looking to make a blockbuster deal involving one of their three star players (Allen, Garnett, or Pierce) and maybe this deal is also just a smokescreen to something else happening.
