Boston's WaterCooler Football game-watching basics training is kicking off to help football-game novices master football basics, just in time for the 2008 football season and your next football party. The Boston WaterCooler Football season opens on Sunday afternoon, September 14th, with its first Boston WaterColor football game watching party and training session, watching the Pats play the New York Jets at Legal Sea Foods, Copley Place, Boston.

Boston WaterCooler Football is designed to help football novices become football savvy enough to chat up the lastest football news at the watercooler at work and, of course, at football game parties. The Boston WaterCool Football kick-off party begins with drinks, appetizers and mingling at 2 p.m., followed by a football basics presentation with Paul Francisco, a former player for the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins and Boston University and partner with Boston WaterCooler Football founder Diane Darling. Darling, who owns the Boston networking firm, Effective Networking, will also offer advice on football party networking. Admission for the football training session and game is $25 per person for the first five people registered and $30 for additional attendees.

In the press release announcing WaterCoolerFootball and the WaterCoolerFootball.com web site, Darling explains that she grew up watching football (her Dad was a college football coach). Darling sat ys thshe couldn't believe how many people had no idea about football basics and how to watch and understand a football game. As she networked about her football concerns, Darling found out that the lack of football knowledge led many people to avoid football parties and miss out on the chance for some worthwhile football party networking. And WaterCoolerFootball was launched.

Darling's WaterCoolerFootball is a division of Effective Networking. Darling consults and speaks on networking skills, is the author of two networking books and is also a networking columnist for the Boston Business Journal.

Now retired from professional football, partner and speaker Francisco came to the U.S. from Honduras, going on to learn English and how to play American football. His football talent led him to Boston University, where he studied political science and then went onto play pro football. In 2007, Francisco made the Boston Business Journal's list of 40 Under 40 to Watch.

The goal of WaterCoolerFootball, says Darling, is to help would-be football fans, including parents of budding amateur football players, learn how to enjoy watching a football game, to finally understand football rules, plays and referee calls. The WaterCoolerFootball.com web site lets you subscribe to Darling's football newsletter and links to other football blogs and articles, as well as to the National Football League web site, of course.

Darling says that she beat her fear of public speaking through acting and comedy classes. Her other hobbies include reading, knitting, and tennis. I wonder if that means she'll agree to let some of us 'football network' while knitting or practicing tennis moves if we promise to at least listen to the football game?

HA! When I saw the headline, I thought YOU were giving out water cooler football advice and pondered what else I might not now about my dear friend. This makes much better sense now that I've read it. :)
