Botox treatment has become one of the most common forms of anti-aging services in the United States. Bruising with Botox treatment is similar to most types of treatments administered with needle therapy. Botox bruising, therefore, is normal and should be expected. What is typically surprising to patients is how long it may take before the bruising develops after Botox treatment.

Over the course of several days, it is not uncommon for bruises to develop. In fact, some patients indicate there is even a sensation of numbness in the area where the Botox is administered much like the numbness in big toe after a foot injury.
While bruising can not be completely avoided, there are steps you can take before and after Botox treatment to minimize the appearance of bruises. For some patients, the use of arnica balm can be effective if it is applied in the days before treatment and then used diligently after the Botox injections are administered. Ask your dermatologist, therefore, about the use of arnica balm prior to your treatment session.
Botox can carry some risks but, typically, this type of anti-aging treatment is safe and effective. For some adults, the Botox can lead to bruising that is delayed and normal. To prepare for this type of complication, ask your dermatologist for advice prior to undergoing this type of needle therapy.
