Boulder Mountain Lodge: Colorado Offers Great Accommodations

Colorado Vacation Destination

V. Hughes
People vacation in Colorado to enjoy what the mountains, the plains, and the cities have to offer. Some look for adventure backpacking, rock climbing or river rafting. Some come to experience the laid back atmosphere of cities like Boulder and Denver; to marvel at the museums and historical places. Some just want to shop. First they need a place to stay.

We discovered the Boulder Mountain Lodge five years ago and keep going back. It has everything we look for in vacation accommodations in Colorado. The unpaved road that leads down to it reminds us we are not in the city, the wild landscape is beautiful, and the staff is always friendly.

Staying at Boulder Mountain Lodge puts you near whatever you came to Colorado to do. Located on Four Mile Canyon Road just five minutes outside of Boulder it is convenient to all that Colorado has to offer. Leaving the lodge turn left to go to Boulder, turn right to head for the high country.

Located in a small canyon Boulder Mountain Lodge's architecture blends with its environment and offers a choice of accommodations. There are campsites, first come basis, for tents or RVs. Rooms are spacious with kitchenettes or the traveler can choose a suite of rooms with a full kitchen and whirlpool bath. Cabins are also available for large groups or families. Prices are very reasonable but do change so check out their website.

Picnic tables and a covered pavilion sit beside a small stream populated by trout. A broad patch of green grass bordered by Colorado wildflowers is a perfect place to sit and relax or have a picnic. For the guests there is also a swimming pool and hot tub.

What you won't find at the Boulder Mountain Lodge is air conditioning. Even in the hottest days of summer there is a cool breeze blowing down the canyon. All the rooms have big windows that let nature keep things cool. No humming machinery will intrude on the songs of birds, the gurgling stream, or the laughter of families having a great time.

Guests also get a bonus each morning. Breakfast goodies are served in a room beside the office. Fresh coffee, muffins, bagels, cereal and milk, fruit and juices to start the day with. It is great to make a choice and take it out the door, across the footbridge and enjoy while sitting beside the stream.

From the Boulder Mountain Lodge you are minutes away from Boulder, minutes away from some of the best rock climbing in the area, and minutes away from some exciting river rafting opportunities. There are hiking and biking trails that parallel the river and run all the way to Boulder.

Prefer the city; then check out Boulder's Pearl Street Mall for great shopping and sightseeing. On Saturday mornings go to the Farmer's Market or catch a free concert in the park. The Contemporary Art Museum is free and music venues abound. Want a bigger city then Denver is an easy hour away.

Boulder Mountain Lodge gets our highest recommendation for friendly service, great location, and restful sleep.
