Jones along with the other members of his entourage are being sued by Aaron Cudworth, a bouncer at the Minxx strip club.
The suit was filed three days after the Tennessee Titans defensive back turned himself in to law enforcement officials in Las Vegas on two felony charges of coercion. The suit was filed in the Clark County District Court. The amount of the suit was not disclosed.
According to an Associated Press article posted on ESPN.com, Cudworth is suing Jones, Jones' 400 pound bodyguard Robert "Big Rob" Reid, and Sadie Morrison for damages that resulted from the fight and shooting that occurred at the strip club on February 19 this year. More specifically, Cudworth is suing for assault, false imprisonment, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Richard Schonfeld, the lawyer for Cudworth, stated that "facts about the February 19 melee and shooting which paralyzed another strip club bouncer and wounded one other person were confirmed in charges that the district attorney filed against Jones on Wednesday. When they made their filing, it confirmed what I was looking for, the civil case can proceed independently of the criminal trail" Associated press/espn.com.
The other bouncer that Schonfeld is referring to is Thomas Urbanski, who was shot in the left hand and torso. As a result of his injuries, Mr. Urbanski was left paralyzed from the waist down. A female club patron was the third person that was injured in the shooting. She was wounded in the head, but her injuries were minor.
The incident occurred at the Minxx strip club during the NBA All-Star weekend. It started when a fight broke out between two strippers. The strippers were fighting over a large amount of cash that was thrown on the stage by Jones from a large trash bag full of cash that he was carrying. Reportedly Jones grabbed one of the girls and began to punch her in the face. Cudworth wrapped his arms around Jones and pulled him away from the stripper. He let go when Jones was being escorted out by the Minxx Club Manager.
Instead of leaving, Jones jumped back on stage, began cursing at Cudworth, threatened to kill him, and vowed not to leave the club. After Cudworth tried to restrain Jones, he was knocked over by Reid, and bit on the ankle by Jones. Jones was than able to get away from the bouncer and when he began to chase after Jones. Cudworth was hit over the head with and cut by a champagne bottle that was being wielded by Morrison.
Jones was finally forced out of the club by Cudworth and others and was overheard telling another member of his group, "lets smoke this fool." Associated press/espn.com. Shortly afterwards a member of Jones group allegedly shot at Cudworth, hitting him in the left arm and chest as well as injuring two others.
The civil law suit against Jones resulting from the incident at Minxx will probably not be the last. It will most likely only be a matter of time before Urbanski and the female patron who was injured file suit against Jones.
