Let's factor in uncle Bub - who only shows up during the holidays with one of his HO HO HO's, cousin Lil G-Twas who has been dropping his rap CD for the past 15 years (he got the calling on his 30th birthday) and all of the over aged aunties who want to demonstrate (girdles, weaves, stretch marks and all) that they can still drop it like it's hot.
You on the other hand just want to say hi to the elders and get the hell out of that place before your limb on the family tree goes up in flames.
Now, you know you can't run in and run out, especially if Big Mama and nem are all there. So, in order to make your stay saner, might I suggest an after party with all of your friends (who will also be trying to avoid the family frenzy).
Not only should you unwind after your holiday visits but you should keep it healthy. Something with lots of Omega-3 fatty acids; this will really help during cold and flu season. A Bountiful Blueberry Martini comes to mind!
Yes, blueberries have been found to have many therapeutic properties. Add vodka to the equation and, unless you're watching your carbs, it's a pretty darn good combination. Omega-3's with fermented potatoes (sometimes rye or wheat) sounds like a hot mess. But trust me on this, it's tangy, tasty and may potentially ward off a virus.
Here's a wonderful recipe for the perfect Bountiful Blueberry Martini (from http://www.drinkswap.com).
Ingredients
2 oz Triple Sec
2 oz Blueberry Vodka
1 dash Sprite
2 oz Blueberry juice
Combine you favorite vodka (Smirnoff has a blueberry flavored one), triple sec and blueberry juice in a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes (I prefer crushed ice). Shake well and strain into a cocktail glass. Top with Sprite, garnish with frozen blueberries, and serve.
Serve Blueberry Martini in a frosted Martini Glass with a sugared rim. If you can't find a blue sugar you can die granulated or raw sugar with food dye. It'll make your mouth blue. But that can be fun too.
If you would prefer to have another flavor of antioxidants with your Vodka visit http://www.drinkswap.com.
Cheers!!
