Bourbon-Soy Asian Style Ribs

Through the years I've developed this recipe from a wide variety of sources, slight modifications and made it my own with the use of a wonderful spice called Chinese Five-Spice. The slight licorice flavor adds so much to this that it's hard to stop eating. Chinese Five-Spice can be found in most of the larger grocery stores that have a nice Asian food section.

Best thing about this recipe it doesn't matter what cut of pork ribs you use. $1.20 a pound country style ribs or $5.99 baby backs are equally as tasty utilizing this method.

Bourbon-Soy Asian Style Ribs

1/2 c. soy sauce
1/2 c. light brown sugar, packed firmly
5 lbs. pork ribs, trimmed (Your choice: St. Louis, Country, or Baby Back)
1/2 c. Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey (Cheaper the better.)
2 tbsp. minced garlic

1 tsp. Chinese Five Spice

Fresh ground pepper

Marinade:

Mix soy sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, Five spice, pepper and garlic in a small bowl.

Put ribs in a large zip style plastic storage bag.

Pour marinade over ribs. Coat thoroughly and let stand to marinate, overnight, kneading and turning the ribs several times.

Cook:

Preheat grill to a medium heat.

Remove ribs from marinade and place in preheated grill for 20 minutes away from the heat source (Indirect Grilling-For charcoal pile charcoal to one side only and cook on the other side. For gas grills, utilize burners so that the burner is off directly under the ribs). Discard remaining marinade.

Turn and grill for 20 more minutes.

Turn heat to low and grill over the heat source for an additional 20 minutes, turning every 3-4 minutes to evenly brown until done.

My love of cooking began early on and expanded (along with my waist) as I grew older. I have a weekly newsletter/recipe that has well over 100 people on the mailing list. Hopefully my good sense of humor...  View profile
