Bowtie Crochet 8" Square - Perfect for Charity Crochet

Phebe A. Durand
Why an 8-inch square? Simple enough - most charities look for 8-inch squares, and those that are looking for larger ... well, this square can quickly be expanded up to 12-inches just by repeating the edging rounds.

If you're in the giving mood, and create a block or two for charity, here are a few places that could really use your squares: Crafting Angels, Kaye's Place, Knit for Katrina (yes, they accept crochet squares), Rock-a-thon.

Closer to home, try mixing these squares with more "solid" squares, or not stopping until you have a full strip that you can piece in with mile-a-minute strips. The effect is just plain pretty.

  • Make sure to chain loosely - otherwise the bows start looking stretched.
  • For a brighter block, try making the edging in a contrasting color.
  • To make a larger block, repeat the edging rounds until the block is the size you need.
