A spark was light when professional boxer Floyd Mayweather announced that if he was put in the ring with a fighter from the Ultimate Fighting Championship, otherwise known as the UFC for short, then he would come out victorious. However, he has failed to agree to fight anyone from the UFC and claiming that he has no reason to fight someone from the UFC because he wouldn't get paid as well as he would in a boxing match. That may be true but the only reason for the difference in pay is because boxing has been around for ages and the UFC league has been underground for while and is now going mainstream and its popularity has been increasing tremendously since so it might be long until their salaries are matched with that of boxers. But is it about the money or about who would beat the living crap out of whom? Maybe pretty boy Mayweather doesn't want to not only get beaten to a bloody pulp but to also lose his winning streak and his pretty boy face.
Mayweather stands at 5 feet and 9 inches and packs a hell of a punch with a winning streak of 37 wins and 0 losses. UFC fighter Sean Sherk stands at 5 feet and 6 inches with a win streak of 33 wins, 1 tie, and 1 loss according to MMA statistics. Mayweather has the height advantage and a bigger winning streak but Sherk put more of his opponents in the hospital than Mayweather ever will. There are plenty of reasons why a boxer is no match for a MMA and here's why.
Boxing and MMA are totally different sports. Boxing is a sport of punches and is bounded by many rules such as no grabbing, no hitting below the belt, no attacking in the back and so on whereas MMA is about mastering many different fighting styles and is not bounded by rules. A boxer isn't trained to dodge kicks to the legs or any part of the body as a matter of fact or handle grappling or watching out for his back so the only way for a boxer to survive is to stay off the ground and to hopefully make his only one punch knock out his opponent. A boxer only has one shot otherwise he's down and that is why being able to fight in one fighting style makes you a so called one hit wonder. Whereas a MMA is trained to do everything including boxing so it would be hard to be able to knock out a MMA because they can take the hit.
Many boxer fans would still argue that a boxer like Mayweather can beat a master of many arts so let's make another comparison. Comparing boxing to UFC is like comparing NASCAR to drag racing. It is obvious that a NASCAR driver would beat a drag racer on the oval track because a drag racer only knows how to drive fast in a straight line whereas a NASCAR driver knows how to drive fast and make turns. We all saw what happened when a street racer went against a drifter, it may be a movie but that would have been the result. With that being said, that is why a master of all trades will always beat a one hit wonder.

Post a Commentwhoevers written this article, i think the 'put more opponents in hospital than mayweather will' is geuinely one of the dumbest things i've ever heard...boxers have GLOVES you fool, it is an art form, your not supposed to seriously injure anyone, it is a sport of skill, not brutality. Unlike mma where as you've described, is basically a blood sport. look at kimbo, a street fighter with decent striking ability has come into mma off the back of NO proffesional training and within months is at a good level. imagine a proffesionaly trained world champion boxer coming into mma, after a year he would be murdering people.
BBB, you've made a fool out of yourself. Would you have hunted that guy down and assaulted him if he had given you his address? You delivered what could easily be interpreted as a threat in writing! If you were truley dangerous, (or smart), you would have never done that. Any man who has ever imposed his will on another realizes this. You're pathetic. If you were to step into a ring of ANY discipline and fight with the lack of control that you've displayed here, you'de be easily dispatched of by many opponents.
There is of course one interesting observation made here- that an MMA fighter would beat a boxer in an MMA match. I wonder if the poster considered that the opposite would also be true? The problem with these comparisons is that MMA fighters are not trained as much in any ONE aspect of fighting, but are rather spread out and taught to outfight another opponent by forcing them to fight you at your specialty. Thus, I disagree with the statement that MMA fighters are masters of many trades- they usually aren't. Instead, they focus on all around competency and mastery of one or two areas and how to link them together.
A more interesting comparison would be to see if a boxer would stand a chance against a Muay Thai fighter, and that question is often answered in K-1.
OK here is another video for you guys to view. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3ta5u_francois-botha-vs-yusuke-fujimoto_sport and here is his record http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=003307&cat=boxer Now we can't say this guy is a has been because he is fighting someone around his own league just like the other fights I listed on here. I am sad to hear about Jeremy Williams but he did not fight a known name in mma. Anyone who watches mma will tell you this. Anyone who doesn't will just talk crapola.
I got some sad news man. According to this website jerremy williams killed himself. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=3898&zoneid=13 May God have mercy on his soul.
You guys need to look at this website: http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=dd-mmarankings030608&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
By and large, the pundits agree that at this time Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre, Quinton Jackson, B.J. Penn, Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Urijah Faber, Dan Henderson and Randy Couture all deserve a place among elite, but disagree on where they should be placed.
Ok guys here is a movie that shows a boxer vs mma fighter. I think you will like it because it shows what can happen if a fighter becomes well rounded in both boxing and mma. Enjoy!! http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Undisputed+2&search_type= talk to you guys later!! peace out!!
mention seeing them fight on a dream card of what most people would love to see happen? My family said they would not be afraid of fighting someone in the mma because you have to believe in yourself and you have to believe that no matt what happens, you will do the best of your abaility to make the outcome of what you dreamed of. I have and always like boxing but when you look at it now it's not the same. The fights are fixed because of $$$$$$$. I believe that says much about our decisions and if especially if we want to put food on the table for our family. I do see some boxers winning fights and vice versa. But only when we see the true outcome can we know the outcome for what it is to be.
it's cool man I know I got out of hand and I knwo this is all about fun. so no worries man. My fault. But seriously man I agree with you to a degree and my father who was a professional boxer when he was young and my brother-in law who is diagnosed with parkinsins disease. I know and we all can agree all who are here giving our different opinions about what we believe and disgree about. I feel from my heart that we are have our own judement and that's the best thing we can have. If we all thought of the same way we would be in trouble. No one would be a doctor or game designer or boxer or mma fighter if we all thought the same. I respect everyone's judgement but I truly believe that in most cases and not in all. That the fight depends on the fighters themselves. But wouldn't it be good to actually see the fighters that
calm down BBB, its just an opinion. but here is the clip you asked for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qANUBXVewXU
jeremy williams was a delahoya olympic boxing team member. he fought for a world title and was ko'd by samuel peter so is trying his hand at mma, he's 3 and 0 against mma fighters. he is by no means a mayweather skilled boxer but is not a 50 year old bum like mercer is. don't take it so personal. my advice to you if you can't keep your cool is to invite someone your mad at to the gym, put on the gloves and make your statement. that way there is no hard feelings, and no law breaking just ego humbling, its a great way to dish out much needed lessons....no thankyou for the invitation for a scrap. until a mma guy beats an elite boxing champion i ain't taking your word for it. join a gym? i got nothin to prove.
