Boxing's Worst Nicknames Ever

Some of the Names on the List May Spark Controversy

Thomas "Hitman" Hearns
I had to put this one on my list not due to the fact that I don't respect Tommy Hearns for some of the charitable work that he has done along with the fact that he had a stellar boxing career, but the fact that he later took his aggression out on his children. Hearns was later accused of child abuse following his boxing career. It is simply unacceptable to go around beating on children or the people you care about. He was arrested on the charges, but never convicted.

"The Boston Tar Baby" Sam Langford
I just personally find this one a little disturbing. Some people out there may think we live in too politically correct of a world. This nickname stuck out to me because ESPN had it listed as one of the best boxing nicknames. I will let the readers decide for themselves. I was also a little taken back when Tony Snow used the phrase "tar baby" during a press conference, but again maybe I need to put on my big boy shoes and march on. Langford for his part was rated one of the best punchers of all time by Ring Magazine
.
John "The Beast" Mugabi
Too plain and bland for the great fighter that was John Mugabi. I don't know if boxing fans around the world will agree with me, but this is just one man's opinion. Mugabi had thirty nine knockouts in his professional and had a stellar Olympic Games as an amateur.

"Boxing" Andrew Manyard
That's right kids, his promote thought it would be cool to call him BAM because Mr. Manyard was a boxer. The nickname doesn't exactly get a gold star in my book.

"The Flushing Flash" Kevin Kelley
Right off the bat it makes you want to go to the bathroom when his fights begin. This is no way to go through your boxing career. Sure you're fast, but flushing? Come on folks you know you can do better than that. I could use one of those silly boxing nickname generators out there and come up with something much better. The way some of these nicknames were invented we should just be glad the geniuses out there just didn't stick another K to Kevin Kelley and just call him "KKK" with some variance and "creativity."

A boxing nickname does not have to be complicated. You can call your "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler and get away with it. It is especially cool when you legally change it to marvelous than everyone will think you are hot stuff.
