Finding out that you are pregnant is very exciting news for most people. Knowing that a small person is growing inside of you can be a very wonderful feeling. Most women cannot wait to get out and begin shopping and browsing through baby items.

They search through name books and begin to day dream about what their infant will look like. They create wish lists at various baby stores and prepare for a baby shower.

Even doctor's appointments become a highlight. Appointments for ultrasounds can especially be fun and exciting.

About four or five months into pregnancy, a women begins getting a very familiar question, "Is it a boy or a girl?" Everyone begins wondering what you are having. In today's technical world, it is usually very easy to find out if you are expecting a boy or a girl. Most women take advantage of the technology and find out if their baby is a boy or a girl. However, some women prefer to wait and be surprised.

Deciding if you will find out what you are having can be a very difficult decision. This can be even more complicated if one parent wants to find out what gender the baby is and the other parent wants to wait until birth.

There are both pros and cons to finding out the gender of your baby before it is born.

If this is your first child, you may have an advantage by finding out if you are having a boy or a girl. It will be much easier to shop and be ready when the baby is born. If you do not find out the gender of the baby, your baby shower may be full of greens and yellows instead of blues and pinks. It may also be harder to decorate your nursery.

If this is not your first baby, you will not have to worry with others shopping for your baby shower. If you already own the basic baby needs, it may be fun to wait and be surprised. It is advised to think of both a boy name and a girl name so you are not caught in a bind when the baby is born. If you previously had both a boy and a girl you are in even better shape to wait and be surprised when the baby is born. However, if you have viewed ultrasounds before and know what to look for, you may have to hide your eyes through the gender pictures.

Finding out if the baby is a boy or a girl is usually completely up to the parents. However, it is best if the two parents agree either on finding out or waiting.
