Boy Trapped in Balloon

Lea Barton
A six year old Colorado boy named Falcon is trapped in a 20 foot by 5 foot helium balloon. The balloon, an experimental aircraft created by his parents, was formerly attached to is parents home in the Fort Collins, Colorado area. The boy trapped in the balloon is believed to have no communications device and to have no way to pilot the balloon.

News coverage of the event is focused on the balloon's lack of controls and the inability of aviation experts to determine a safe method for rescuing the young boy. Experienced weather balloon chasers are working on a method to bring the balloon down safely, and there is speculation among experts and media that the experimental aircraft is designed as a new version of a weather balloon.

The six year old boy's parents were unaware that Falcon was in the balloon's basket, and are not certain how the child was able to climb into the balloon, detach tie lines from the home, and release himself into the air within the experimental aircraft.

News footage of the balloon's travels shows that the balloon is moving at high speeds, and at times portions of the helium-filled balloon deflate and reinflate. As of this time, the boy remains airborne with no sign of the balloon landing soon.
