Boyne City Fireworks - July 4th Celebration

What is Scheduled for July 4th Besides Fireworks?

Beth Inman
July 4th is almost here and the sky over Northern Lower Michigan will be alive with color. Everyone gets in on the action. Almost every town and city in the area has a celebration and/or fireworks.

Charlevoix, Emmett and Mackinaw counties host some of the best fireworks you will ever see.

I love to gather all the grandkids and head to Boyne City for the fireworks display. Because we live in the area, we can enjoy the 2 days of festivities. The town is full of people, walking around town and enjoying Boyne's "Stroll the Streets" event. This is a weekly event, beginning early every Friday, the main streets are closed and live entertainment is set up on several corners. The quaint, shop lined main street, comes to life with both locals and visitors enjoying the music or strolling the street. Clowns and musicians entertain the kiddies and face painters turn them into what ever their imagination desires. Boyne City Veteran's Memorial Park will be the gathering place to listen to the live bands that entertain the crowd as well as the primary gathering place for the fireworks.

There is a great deal going on during Boyne City's celebration. Games, tasty BBQ, live entertainment, Races and many more activities.

Boyne City provides entertainment on the lawn in the Veteran's Memorial Park as well as the Old City Park right by the Dairy Queen. It is just a short walk, 1 block from the main street, and still the center of activity.

One of the grandchildren's favorite activities is the rubber ducky race. For only $10 you can get into the game. You get a numbered rubber ducky. All the rubber ducks are dumped into the Boyne River at the Old City Park. Everyone crowds along the riverbank cheering his or her rubber ducky along. This is easy to do because they are all numbered in big black numbers, so you can follow your duck. As the ducks travel the river they get stuck and the crowd goes crazy trying to shout their duck free. The ducks eventually make it to Lake Charlevoix. The first duck to make it to Lake Charlevoix is the winning duck and will bring a prize of $1,000 to the holder of that number. This is a crazy good time and a game all will look forward to.

Boyne City provides a great fireworks display. Beginning in the morning on July 4th, people begin to spread blankets and lawn chairs from the Veteran's memorial Park in Boyne City and continue all around the lakeshore in both directions. The lake will fill with boats full of onlookers.
