Braided Hairstyles for Short Haircuts

Braids are more than just a popular hairstyle for women with long hair. They lend a great deal of charm to shorter hairstyles as well. In fact, short hair can actually lend itself to some braided styles better than long hair, since the intricacies of design are sometimes lost in the length of hair. Here are a few fun hairstyles that women with short hair can try.

Dual French Braids

While a woman with long hair can take two French braids and style her hair, they usually look best when the length of the hair is pulled into a bun. A woman with short hair can take the same two braids and look like a modern-day Dorothy landing in Oz in a heartbeat.

Take your hair and part it down the middle from front to back and then brush either side down. When you begin to form your braid, try to make sure the braid is nestled against the back and top of the ear as close as possible until the length begins to pull it away. Stop and assess the position of your hair in the mirror before progressing too far. When you finish, the tips of your braids should be pointing at your shoulder blades. Secure the braid with some hairspray or a barrette.

Sidelining Braids

When you have short hair, drawing attention to your cute style is easily done with braids. One cute braid style is perfect for shorter hair and is easy for any woman who can make a classic braid (or two). Take up the front pieces of your hair on either side of your part. Create two small braids. When this is done, take the two braids, join the tips of each braid and secure them at the crown of your head. Depending on the length of your hair, they could tuck into each other, or they may need to be pinned.

A Single Braid

If you want to show off a little bit of pixie, part your hair to the extreme of either side of your head and brush it down smooth. Use gel if necessary to achieve a glossy and sleek look. When this is accomplished, take the front part of your hair on the side of your part where the bulk of your hair is located. Brush the front of the hair down slightly and use a comb to separate it cleanly. Brush the hair again to ensure it is a smooth surface from root to tip and braid it in a small, classic braid. Pin it behind your ear if the tip will reach that far back; if not, pin it where the braid is secured.

These looks are a bit edgy, so be prepared for some glances and have fun with your new styles!
