Brain Quest Preschool Product Review

Juniper Russo
About a month ago, I purchased the Brain Quest for Threes product for my daughter, who is nearing three years of age. She enjoyed the product tremendously, and it challenged her in all the right ways. You can read my review of Brain Quest for Threes here.

Although the "For Threes" Brain Quest product is still enjoyable, I decided to up the ante and buy her the Brain Quest Preschool series. With 300 questions tailored to children between 4 and 5 years of age, Brain Quest Preschool provided my daughter with all the fun, educational activities found in the edition for younger toddlers.

Brain Quest Preschool contains a variety of questions geared toward preschool-age children over four years of age, but not yet attending kindergarten. Questions include very simple visual cues, such as, "Which animal is wearing a pink dress?" and fairly complicated challenges such as, "Which of these objects is the same shape as planet Earth?" The question set features number identification, basic phonics, identifying patterns, age-appropriate vocabulary, and matching similar words, shapes or pictures.

I was, at first, concerned that Brain Quest Preschool would be too challenging for my not-yet-three-year-old. Since it is targeted to children nearly twice her age, I expected that she would understand and correctly answer only a few of the questions. However, I was surprised to see that-- while many of the questions did pose something of a challenge-- they were well within her developmental stage.

My toddler is gifted, but I wouldn't generally consider her to be more savvy than an average five-year-old. For this reason, while I enjoyed using Brain Quest Preschool edition for my gifted toddler, I would consider it to be too easy to be educational or entertaining for most children over 4.5 years of age. I believe that an average 3.5- to 4-year-old would, however, benefit from the product.

If your preschool-age child is over four years of age and gifted or developmentally advanced, I would recommend moving a step up in the Brain Quest hierarchy, and purchasing the Brain Quest Kindergarten edition instead of the Brain Quest Preschool questions. Although I anticipate that my daughter will continue to enjoy this product for at least a few years, I believe that she will outgrow the most significant challenges in the game within only a few months.
