Brain Teasers, Puzzle Games and Secret Boxes for Under $10

Lori Voth
Do you know any of those "Puzzle People"? You know the ones I'm referring to. The people who, when given a challenge, will absolutely not give up trying to beat a challenge until said challenge is conquered. That guy who insists on showing off his expertise with your Rubik's cube each and every time he comes over to your office desk, even though you've seen him master the skill plenty of times before and it's safe to say you both know that he knows that you know that yes, he is quite talented in puzzles & games of this nature so there's no need to flaunt the characteristic repeatedly? Yet every time he just can't resist.

Well maybe you don't know him but alternatively perhaps you know someone with similar attributes who would also be a good candidate for these brain teaser puzzle game gift selections. Puzzles & games and especially 3d puzzle games are usually a suitable present for anyone, and they work particularly well as a side sort of stocking stuffer gift.

Know anyone who likes to fidget? Have friends that need to take out stress on something besides their computer keyboard or (fill in blank with appropriate punching bag alternative). Or just maybe you happen to know someone who would find this sort of thing- puzzle games- cool. Surely you do, I mean let's face it who wouldn't right? But what on earth to get these puzzles & game lovers for gifts?

You can't get these puzzle games and brain teaser enthusiasts just any wooden puzzle game, secret box or metal puzzle brain teaser. They've likely been there and done that with all the most popular puzzle trick stocking stuffers that remain popular in the commercial marketplace in which you shop. Oh no, you must be selective about the puzzles & games and related items you choose to present to your puzzle loving acquaintance. Show them you understand how deep their puzzle appreciation really goes and that any old best selling puzzle game simply will not do.

Now finally, I direct you to read below for a list and detailed explanations of great gift ideas in this puzzle & games brain teaser type of genre:

Fiendish pocket puzzles
This inadvertently sexy and precisely designed collection of metal puzzles & games, consists of 15 brain teasers that are small enough to hold in your palm. You might also choose to carry them around in your pocket when you are out socializing or bored at the office. Surely these metal puzzles, each possessing its own distinguishing intricacies, will significantly add to your popularity status in any circle of your peers.

Next time you are in a group, feeling left out or just starving for attention because that's just how you are, try nonchalantly taking your Fiendish Japanese Pocket Puzzle (as Think Geek refers to them) out of your pocket and after fidgeting with it for a bit the spotlight is almost guaranteed to be centered on you.

Upon viewing the collection of 15 different metal puzzles available to choose from it is readily apparent that these brain teaser puzzles & games are quality items created each with fine detail and artistic distinction.

Metal puzzles available to select from each have their own tempting names including the Cage, Quartet, Nutcase, and Vortex just to name a few. And the makers of these little brain teaser puzzles & games even took the consideration to include those who may be less adept or experienced in the mastery of such trinkets by applying a level of difficulty scale to each one so that planning and measuring your metal puzzle solving achievements and progress can be a cinch to keep up with.

Order one metal puzzle brain teaser or a few. Maybe you can set out to eventually collect all of them. Whatever way you fancy.

But if you want to embark on the metal challenge anytime soon, act quickly, it appears these little pocket puzzle games are quite popular. And the price is always subject to change of course, depending on when you actually take action and click on the product description link but currently you can get your metal puzzle brain teaser or two for less than ten bucks; which in my opinion, since you asked, seems like quite a steal.

15 metal puzzle options of varying degrees of difficulty ranging from
$7.99 to $9.99

Magic IQ Box

The heading that Think Geek online catalog uses to summarize these wooden puzzle boxes, or 3d puzzle brain teaser states the following: "Give the gift of frustration." Thoroughly amused, I couldn't resist looking into the item as a potential contender for my puzzles & games, brain teaser gift guide to see if they were really as challenging and cool as the sales and distribution company implied.

And well, look at the picture and it is obvious that they are. These wooden puzzle boxes are not suitable for people who give up easily but if you know someone who likes a challenge this might be the best present they receive this year altogether.

The 3d puzzle, wooden puzzle box brain teaser needs little more explanation, as it appears quite similar to other little puzzles & games in this genre of stocking stuffer gifts and brain teasers. What does make this particular Magic IQ Box stand out from the rest, though is that while most hand held puzzles allow for the constant shuffling and interweaving of their parts to at least make you feel like you are getting close to a solution, this wooden box puzzle is flat on all edges. There are no latches- nothing to grip nothing to pull, etc. In other words your gift recipient will likely spend the first several minutes of acknowledging the gift just holding it with a dumbfounded stare.

Get Charged Brain Teaser

This particular brain teaser contraption won't look like much sitting on your shelf or displayed on your desks to tempt your colleagues to fiddle with it. Really all this item seemingly consists of is a fairly decent sized and real legitimate spark plug that appears to be very simply inserted in a wooden box like frame.

The goal, as you surely could have guessed by now is similar and or identical to the objectives in the wooden puzzle boxes or brain teaser puzzles & games listed above: And that is to get the object out of the box, separate the two from each other, etc etc. as long as you do something that allows each component of the puzzle game to become mobilized and useful as opposed to stubbornly wedged in the middle of some bizarrely designed formation that even your friend at the magic shop down the street can't budge free.

Fortunately though, with this puzzle game, known as the "Get Charged Brain Teaser" as it is listed in the Paragon gift catalog, there contains a solution with the package. While most everyone loves a good brain teaser challenge there's nothing like that moment of relief that sweeps over you when you give in, read how the trick was done, perform the solution yourself and (ahhh...) gain sufficient closure.

The Get Charged Brain Teaser Puzzle Game can be purchased for
$7.99 (formerly $10.99 take note) from
The Paragon Catalog Store.

The Cross Puzzle

This Cross Puzzle Brain Teaser, also from the Paragon is claimed to be difficult enough to stump even the most skilled and practiced puzzle extraordinaires. This brain teaser puzzle game is like many of the others, designed within a wooden box.

The word on the street I overheard about this wooden 3d puzzle was that it was simple to solve once you could figure out how to dismantle it or simply separate the various wooden parts from the whole. Much like the aforementioned Magic IQ Box, this tricky wooden puzzle has no obvious ridges, latches, slides or other such components one with common sense would direct their attention to first while attempting to find the puzzle solution.

Fortunately though, the manufacturers of this nice wooden puzzle box, which by the way would make a nice desktop ornament as well I should add, have kindly packaged the puzzle box with the solution included.

Get this Wooden Puzzle Game while it's hot. The price which was once at $8.99 has dropped to a very low $6.99, presumably in light of the holiday season.

This Cross Puzzle can be viewed in full color as well as ordered online at the Paragon Catalog Website.

I adore challenging puzzles. Rubik has actually put out a new one but it doesn't sound anywhere near as intriguing as the Cube.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I enjoy brain teasers, word games, logic puzzles, etc. I've never tried a 3D puzzle, though- they sound cool! Now to find the time... :)
