Tide laundry soap or ultra suds? Hormel beans or Captian Quick? Kraft creamy cheese squares or Aunt Betty's cheese bricks? How do you decide on the right product for you and your family? Do you stay loyal to name brand foods? Do you mix and match when grocery shopping? Do you always shop at your local food store and never stray? Are you a runner? Shopping at several stores just to get the best deal? Are you a coupon clipper?

In every grocery store aisle, you have a choice. You can purchase the brand name product or you can select the knock off. Generic products made fame in the 1970's. Forcing the well known companies to take another look at their offerings. It's fair game at the grocery store when knock off's sit along side the well known makers. Each fighting for your hard earned cash.

The wholesale clubs were taking over just ten years ago. Where one could buy by the case. Now it's a war between the big box stores. No matter your choice of stores, a decision must be made to remain loyal to brand name products or lay low with the off the wall names.

Many people are true to brand names for safety sake! Some people feel it's too risky to trust food made elsewhere just to save 40 cents. They have a concern for unknown items and where do they really come from. They feel the big companies they grew up with will take care to offer only the best and safest product and stand behind it. We all want a bargin, to save a few bucks on our grocery bill. We want good food at the best price.

Some grocery stores carry more off brand foods and such than others. Here a store like Aldi's is known for cheap prices on unknown brand names. They do have some well known names mixed in. You can save money and bag your own groceries. A very well known grocery store: Jewel- in Illinois is famed for carrying top of the line brand name products. Been in business for over 100 years. They cater to their customers. Service first. They are known for brand name products, even though they carry some off brands and have their own store brand label.

Can you stay loyal to a product admist climbing prices? Would you switch from Deans milk to fat farm milk to save 45 cents? Do you worry about product safety among the unknown labels? Is it even a thought as you grab for a huge can of roundieO's as you push aside the well known spaghettiO's to save 14 cents? Is it wise to opt out of a higher priced brand name item for the sake of your health? We all know what can happen-but will it? Just as it did in the product line up for cats and dogs. We treasure our pets dearly and search out the best known products to feed them. Shouldn't it hold true for people food to? Why take the chance?

Next time you head out to shop for food for yourself and your family, be loyal--to yourself. Serve up the best products available.

The comment at the end, about pet food, is not entirely correct. If I recall, Eukanuba, Iams, Nutro, and less expensive but not generic Alpo, were on this list. The first three mentioned are top of the line brands when it comes to dog food, far from being generic.

Pearlygates, I hope everything works out ok. Toni, great article. I think for certain things I have to save the money and go off-brand but for medicine and food it just isn't worth the risk.

Great article Toni. Sorry I've been so slow reading everyones articles. The tornado in SE Wi, hit our neighborhood.
We were very fortunate with just losing the roof of our porch. But other friends and neighbors were not so lucky with their homes.
I am happy to say no one was seriously hurt. Will be catching up on all my reading soon.
