Brandi Carlile was raised in the foothills of Ravensdale, Washington and it is there that she took an interest in music to cleanse her of the loneliness rural life had to offer. Her only musical lessons involved shutting herself in her room when her parents and siblings went to town and singing as loudly and boldly as she could. From there she developed an interest in the piano and taught herself accordingly.
At the tender age of eight, Brandi took to the stage for the first time when she sang Roseanne Cash's "Tenessee Flat-Top Box". From there, she nurtured her talent by becoming a back-up singer for an Elvis impersonator. A few years later, she began booking herself and her band, consisting of her two twin brothers, anywhere they could find work; sports bars and chowder houses included.
Her consistency and dedication to her craft paid off in 2004 when Columbia Records snagged her and produced her debut self-titled album, "Brandi Carlile". Its infectious sound and permeating harmonies remind one of a bittersweet first love and the unattainable one that haunts even the most well-adjusted soul. Each song has a story all its own and will take you on an unexpected, but welcoming, journey.
Seattle, your summer night is about to be enriched when Brandi participates in the Woodland Park Zoo's "Zoo Tunes" Concert Series on Wednesday, August 2, 2006. Bring your cameras, bring your friends, and your desire for some authentic, rootsy, soul-driven music that is sure to stop even the most audacious critic. Tickets have already sold out at the Zoo's box office, but are still available by visiting Metropolitan Markets in the Seattle area.
