Brandy May Face One Year in Jail
Actress and Pop Star Brandy Faces Possible Manslaughter Charge for Involvement in Car Crash
According to reports, on Dec. 30, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., Brandy was driving a Land Rover on the northbound side of Interstate 405 in Sherman Oaks, California, when traffic slowed down.
That's when Brandy's 2007 Land Rover reportedly hit a 2005 Toyota, which in turn hit a 1989 Toyota. The 2005 Toyota came to a stop and was then struck by a 1988 Acura.
Though the details of the chain reaction crash are still being reported, according to a California Highway Patrol report, Brandy's 2007 Land Rover hit the back of 38-year-old Awatef Aboudihaj's Honda. As a result, Aboudihaj's then car struck another vehicle and careened sideways into the center divider.
The report stated that Awatef was then hit by another car. According to the coroner's office, Aboudihaj later died at a hospital from blunt-force injuries. Brandy, who was reportedly traveling about 65 mph before the crash, was not injured.
Officials stated that neither Brandy nor the other witnesses realized the severity Aboudihaj's injuries.
Los Angeles city attorney's office prosecutors will look over the evidence turned over by the CHP and make a determination whether or not to file charges against Brandy, said city attorney's office spokesman Nick Velasquez today.
"These can be complex cases," Velasquez said, adding that he would not be able to predict how much time it will take for prosecutors to go over the evidence presented in this case and make their final determination to file charges or not.
A representative from the California Highway Patrol told TMZ.com that his department believes negligence from Brandy caused the fatal crash however, he didn't believe the accident was due to gross negligence.
According to the TMZ website, if officials do find that Brandy is guilty of gross negligence, she could be prosecuted for felony manslaughter.
Brandy expressed sympathy publicly to Aboudihaj's family last week, when Norwood's publicist, Courtney Barnes, issued a statement saying Brandy wished to "express her condolences to the family of the deceased."
Barnes also reported that Brandy was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
However, the California Highway Patrol recommended today that Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in county jail and a $1,000 fine.

I dont think her celebrity status should keep her out of this, but mistakes happen and if it happened to one of us we would be scared and not want 2 serve time either.we all know that she did intensionally mean to kill her. its a lesson learned, cut the girl some slack.

Celebrity or not, what an awful thing. This is a warning to all of us to drive as carefully as possible.
It's a shame that she has 2 face this but she is not above the law...if one of us had have hit and killed someone with a car we would be locked up for life.
It's a sad and hard lesson to learn. Poor Brandy. Zac, I hope her celebrity status doesn't get her out of this she should be punished to learn the lesson.
