Brandy's Human: An Early Album Review

Recent times have not always been the best for R&B singer and actress Brandy. Since her last album 2004's Afrodisiac, she was involved in a fatal car accident and has since remained under the radar almost completely. Now she is back with her first album in four years Human. Will Human be able to humanize the singer to the masses?

The first single off of Human is the Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins produced and Evan "The Kidd" Bogart written track Right Here (Departed). The song is a fairly solid first single. It has been a long time since Brandy has been in front of this audience so the track works fairly well at re-introducing her to a marketplace that has changed since she last released an album.

The second single Long Distance is also produced by Rodney Jerkins. The song is very different than the first single. The track is a piano heavy ballad in the same genre as a John Legend single. The song works well and is one of the best tracks on the album.

Camouflage is another Rodney Jerkins assisted track this time with Claude Kelly. The track is fairly solid just not one of the strongest tracks on the album.

The title track Human is another strong track on the album. The song works well with strong writing and a strong vocal performance from Brandy.

Piano Man features a strong piano rift and a variety of electro instrumentation. The writing on the track seems at almost opposites with the up-tempo production however it works.

The Definition is yet another Rodney Jerkins helmed track. The song is catchy and features a heavy beat over Brandy's light vocal performance.

True is another piano heavy ballad. The song works well yet is darker than Long Distance. The vocal performance just seems a little too computer enhanced.

A Capella (Something's Missing) is very different than anything you would expect from Brandy. The track features Brandy singing with no instrumentation besides a sparse electric guitar rift. The song is just very unique.

The album closes with Fall which is written by Natasha Bedingfield and Brandy. The track is a well written with various musical changes throughout the track. The verses are especially strong and the chorus works is definitely very radio friendly.

Overall Human is a solid R&B album. The album shows growth from Brandy as an artist and that is a welcome arrival. Overall Human gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Brandy make sure you pick up Human when it is available in stores on December 9^th.
