About Brandywine Zoo
Brandywine Zoo opened in 1905 as Wilmington Zoo. The zoo grew throughout the early- and mid-20th century with an expanding collection of animals and, in the early 1950s, a children's zoo themed after Mother Goose stories. As the 1980s and 1990s were underway, the zoo entered into a period of major redevelopment, including retheming the entire zoo to reflect the climates of North and South America and Temperate Asia. Brandywine Zoo also constructed an animal hospital, an otter exhibit, and an expanded tiger display during that time.
Brandywine Zoo continues to grow in the 21st century. By the time Brandywine Zoo celebrated its centennial in 2005, the Wilmington landmark had recently built a Siberian tiger exhibit, new entrance, gift shop, offices, and guest facilities.
Brandywine Zoo is a wonderful place to bring the whole family. Adult and children alike will love Brandywine Zoo's many exhibits which bring visitors' faces up close to exotic creatures. The Brandywine Zoo's many educational programs give children a chance to learn more about the many inhabitants at Brandywine Zoo as well as those in the wild. Information booths, exciting exhibits, and knowledgeable park staff and volunteers make a day at the Brandywine Zoo educational, entertaining, and fun.
Brandywine Zoo's location at the beautiful Brandywine Park allows one to enjoy a day which can include jogging, picnics, nature walks, barbecues, and parties with family and friends. Brandywine Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, who was the architect behind New York's Central Park.

Post a CommentGood to read about a zoo that is doing well, maintaining their accreditation, and charging reasonable admission rates. Sadly the Duluth MN zoo has struck out on all three accounts.
