Bratz Dolls

Barbie is Still in the Dreamhouse

Make sure you buy any and all the Bratz dolls that your child wants this holiday season because after this season they are coming off the shelves.

Mattel Inc. (maker of Barbie) has been in a four year legal dispute with MGA Entertainment Inc. (maker of Bratz) and Mattel has won.

This simply means that Barbie has now evicted the Bratz.

US District Judge Stephen Larson ordered that MGA must immediately stop making the Bratz dolls. They do not have to remove them from the store shelves until after the holiday season though.

It seems that all of this came about because Bratz designer Carter Bryant possibly developed the concept while working for Mattel.

Mattel has been awarded $10 million for copyright infringement and $90 million for breach of contract.

The judges decision named all 40 of the dolls in the Bratz line, including the original four- Yasmine, Chloe, Sasha, and Jade.

The Bratz dolls have always seemed a bit risqué to me, especially compared to Barbie, with their mini skirts and fishnet stockings. My daughter did not get sucked into the Bratz craze, but she is just now at the age I think they are geared for. We almost got drawn in with the horses that they came out with because my daughter loves horses, but we have survived. Thank goodness there is Disney to distract us with High School Musical 3 and Madagascar 2 right now.

So again, grab those dolls up while you can because they will be long gone soon.
