In the past, way before the Bratz came to the industry; dolls existed only for a girl to pretend to be a mother. It was something to be cared for. It was often the role in a girl's life, and today such dolls can be seen as baby dolls. These types of dolls are still quite popular with the younger girls, but now they are joined by something much more popular-the fashion dolls.
Fashion dolls, like any other doll, have been around for many years. The most popular doll in the early years of the fashion doll genre was Barbie. Barbie was popular because this doll was an adult, having sophistication that cannot be found in baby dolls. Barbie changed the idea that a doll had to be cared for. She became anything a girl wanted her to be-a teacher, model, mother, or student.
For many years, Barbie ruled the doll industry. No other doll could beat her; her supremacy was untouchable with her wholesome image and flexibility of role. She was every girl's doll. But society changed, and Barbie found it difficult to cope with the changes. Young girls became more and more interested in fashion, and Barbie could no longer give the children what they want. This left Barbie to the younger girls, and the preteens stopped playing with her and considered themselves to be too old for Barbie. This was when the Bratz came into the doll industry.
The Bratz fit the need for preteen girls perfectly. They were more into fashion-edgier and more stylish than Barbie. They are everything that a fashion-conscious girl dreams of becoming. They do not have Barbie's wholesomeness, but they still are able to make up for it. The Bratz focus on fashion and what every girl wants to see in a doll. The Bratz dolls have become every girl's dream doll. Barbie has tried several attempts to change her image just to reach the top again, but unfortunately, nothing seems to work.

Post a Commentsupport Bratz!!!
Exactly, Mattel isn't going to make more money because there are no Bratz since before the Bratz they were losing their target audience anyway to electronics. If anything, Bratz brought the focus back to dolls period! I mean children will like what they like and no matter how large the Barble isles, it will only be passed up by electronics next. Bratz actually had some edge to appeal to the rugged generation, Barbie is too much fluff for today, so as sad as the whole situation is, Bbs is going to retire right along with the Bratz.
I'm a mom of a 9 year old girl. I gotta say this whole fight between Bratz and Barbie is a bunch of BS. My daughter loves the Barbie movies but doesn't play with the dolls no more. But she loves the Bratz dolls. I view court battle as bad for Mattel I've lost respect for them. This court thing is just because they are losing money not for the principles. If it was principle based this would have happened when Bratz first came out not how many YEARS later. This is just because Mattel can't stand the competition, and is losing money. This is instilling the bad ideas of greed that I don't want my kids growing up with. If Mattel continues with this court procedings I will refuse to buy any more of their products based on my priciples. I will not help support a company lacking in principles. And it shouldn't matter when he came up with the idea it's his idea and he owns till he sells it. and since Barbies and Bratz are not at all similar I see no principle behind Mattel's accusations.
