At first, Ms. Stanger's job might seem frivolous or unnecessary. After all, shouldn't it be easy for millionaires to find love? Doesn't every woman want to be with a rich man? As we watch Patty Stanger and her crew of matchmaking professionals at work, viewers will realize that wealthy men are no different than their humble-sized wallet carrying brothers. These men have commitment issues, ageist and sexist attitudes, and a sore lack of romance, chivalry or manners. Patty accepts them as clients for her business, known as the Millionaire's Club, and begins to work to find them a happily ever after.
Patty takes to these men like a no nonsense mother, nurturing the good qualities of their heart but not sheltering them from the cold facts of their flaws. She provides connections to professionals in various fields who assist these men with all aspects of life and dating help and gives them straight-forward and honest feedback about what is expected in the Millionaire's Club.
There are rules in the Millionaire's Club that call back to a more traditional and old-fashioned lifestyle and many of these rules are shared on the show. One of the rules strictly prohibits clients and potential matches from exchanging numbers during mixers. Patty explains that if a man is interested in a woman, he will select her for a date. She explains that asking for a number indicates a "booty call" or an intention to only have sex with someone without any relationship connection. Another rule of the Millionaire's Club is that clients and potential matches cannot have sex until they are in a committed monogamous relationship. Patty explains that this allows the couple to focus on each other's personalities and not be distracted, derailed or discouraged by sexual experiences. Patty will also discourage several potential matches from sharing their ages.
Patty Stanger's process of finding women for mixers and dates is displayed in the show. Patty and her team will assemble a list from an application pool, maternally referred to as "the girls", and bring the women in for auditions. After careful personality and lifestyle analysis interviews, Patty selects women who would appear to be excellent matches for her clients. Just as Patty is firm with her clients, she's firm with her potential matches and distributes necessary and honest advice. In some cases, Patty will even arrange for makeovers before a woman goes on a date with a client. She's strict to insure that no "gold-diggers", or individuals who seek out to marry someone just because of wealth, are accepted as a potential match for a client.
Most clients are honest in their participation in the Millionaire's Club, withholding their last names and manner of business from the television show for the sake of focusing on what they came to Patty for, true love. As hard as it may be, most clients listen to Patty's advice, put their hearts into changing, and find someone with whom they can share the rest of their lives. The clients who are resistant to change find themselves bouncing from date to date with no prospective future and eventually dumped from the Millionaire's Club by Patty herself.
The Millionaire's Club is not a male client-only business. In the show's two seasons, two female millionaires have been accepted as clients by Patty Stanger and have been successfully matched with male dates. Female clients receive just as much straight-forward and honest talk as the male clients and likewise with male potential matches. A not-yet-aired episode of the Millionaire Matchmaker will set Patty to work finding a potential match for a gay millionaire, a first for the show.
