While studying in Northern Ireland Snow Patrol was then known as Songs For Polar Bears which consequently is the name of they're first album. With a slowly growing fan base they released they're second album When It's All Over We Still Have To Clean Up in 2001. After splitting with Scotland's Jeepster Records they added a second guitarist and was quickly snatched up by Polydor, instantaneously starting work on Final Straw
Final Straw has thrown fans and critics a loop. This album is not a stretch genre wise, but musically the band, in a short time, has matured to a completely fine tuned rock band. Songs that pull on your heartstrings and then melt your worries away fill this new album and is definitely their best album to date. Everyday you discover a new song from Snow Patrol, not because you've never heard the entire album all the way through; but because every song plays to a different mood.
With songs such as "Chocolate" describing the emotional affects of to much of a good thing, we wonder if Snow Patrol is reciting lyrics of first hand experiences. This makes Snow Patrol a more 'accessible' band, allowing their fans to have a glimpse inside the inner-workings of Snow Patrol's emotions.
"Ways & Means" shows an insight to many relationships, claiming "I should try to make it right…you're the only one that cares… maybe I can do it if I put my back into it. I could leave you if I wanted but there's nowhere else I can go." If we listen to the lyrics we find there are many "Ways & Means" to get to the end. It's our choice on how we get to that end.
Between the distorted guitars and smooth lyrics Snow Patrol is invading the U.S.A. like a blizzard. Forcing it's way onto our daily life, making us stop and think. Think about what? That is up to you. Every song on this album is up to interpretation but nonetheless it makes us think. It's rare in this day in age to actually find a band that has thought provoking lyrics along with a head rocking tune.
Snow Patrol conquered Europe and recently crossed the pond to the U.S.A. They may be starting small, but they definitely have a growing fan base. Not to mention Snow Patrol is a great stadium band, which is all the ingredients for Rock Star status.
