Café Haiti is in the Miraflores district on Calle Diagonal near the Pacifico cinema, and offers American style breakfast, coffee and espresso. The Café is also well known among locals for its lunch menu. Its location across from famous Parque Kennedy, and the addition of a full liquor bar make it the perfect spot for afternoon hanging out and 'people watching'.
Another popular locals' spot for breakfast in Lima is Manolo's, on Av. Larco in Miraflores. Open at 7am, they serve an American breakfast that includes eggs, bacon or ham, toast -the works. Prices are around $5-6 US. Later in the day, come back for one of their famous churros.
The Hotel Marriott, also on Av. Larco in Miraflores has a breakfast buffet for about $20 US. Locals in the know say it's well worth the price. The restaurant in the hotel also has afternoon tea and a special Sunday buffet, along with regular lunch and dinner service. Casual dress is appropriate, and this is a no-smoking restaurant.
One of the best known spots for breakfast in Lima is La Tiendecita Blanca - also located on Av. Larco in Miraflores. Most famous for their fondues, pastries and cakes, the 'little white store' is a very popular place for breakfast, with a menu that includes omelets with various fillings. Don't forget to try the potato 'rostis' - fried potatoes similar to hash browns. Expect to pay $5-8 US for breakfast.
Because Miraflores is one of the more tourist oriented areas of Lima, you'll find the most breakfast choices there. And remember, although you may be craving an American style breakfast in Lima, don't forget to try the Peruvian options! Some bread fresh from the local bakery with Peruvian style ham and queso blanco makes a delicious breakfast when paired with a cup of cinnamon and clove tea. Street vendors sell fresh rolls with fried egg, shredded chicken or avocado and little bags of sweet coffee to go. And of course, you must try a Peruvian 'emoliente' - an herbal infusion said to be excellent for the digestion. Whatever you decide on, you won't be disappointed - Peruvian cooking is always delicious.
