Mosinee is located just off Interstate 39 ten miles south of Wausau. This is my hometown. Come along and explore the restaurants' atmospheres and morning treats. We have three places to visit: The Stage Stop, S&S Cafe, and Ma and Pa's Place. Each one caters to their diner's appetites. They are unique and welcoming places to relax. Let's dive into the specifics of each one. Come on in! You are always greeted with a friendly smile.
S&S Cafe
During the entrance into the dining area, we notice the large fish tank. It is filled with a variety of color and swimming greeters. The oldie's station is accompanying our meal this morning. It is definitely nice to hear songs we recognize. Looking over the menu, we make notes of the variety and prices. The waitress offers us drinks. "Coffee for everyone!" We almost sound like beggars, but we need our coffee. Coffee cups are brought, placed, and filled for each of us. There is such a large variety, it is almost impossible to decide what we crave. Besides the side orders, you can choose a fried egg sandwich (two eggs on toast) for $3.25 up to the Steve's Super (four eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, onion, mushrooms, tomato, green pepper, and cheese omelet) for $7.25. By the waitress' return, the coffee needs warming. She graciously grabs the pot and tops off each cup. We are impressed with the amount of food received, but can't understand why the jam is all grape. We look around to find more selections; to no avail. Empty packets of sugar litter our table as the check arrives. Now our tummies are filled and we crave a nap.
Ma and Pa's Place
Pulling into the parking lot, we are reminded of the old A&W. The new establishment still has the outside cover stretching, out front, to greet the drive in customers (they do not cater to). It is a small place with lots of heart. The interior is filled with advertisements. These signs help occupy our sight. The waitress greets us with a smile and asks what we need to drink. Again, coffee all around. The tables are not set up with creamers. We politely ask for them to be brought out. The menu is impressive. They have everything from two eggs with toast (for $2.59) to steaks, potatoes and toast (for $7.39). This business is still new to Mosinee. The empty chairs suggest a lot without saying anything. The food was well prepared and the service was nice, but now the check arrives. We grab our wallets and head to the register. The rock music seems out of place here, yet it captures our ears and makes our feet start tapping. We feel instantly energized and ready to take on the day's chores.
The Stage Stop
We begin chatting about the warm feeling of the exterior. It is intriguing and welcoming to all who pull up. The parking lot is gigantic! Our vehicle is safe for sure. We enter the double doors and glance at the visitor's information. We decide to proceed into the building and are stopped by a heartfelt poster. A local family is having a memorial fund treasure sale. The Stage Stop hung the flier and a touching pictures for all to see. "Good morning!" is heard from each worker passing by. We sit in the booth and listen to today's musical selection. We are surprised to hear the country music flowing. It is the old and new country hits station. We are greeted by a waitress holding a pot of coffee. "You look like a pick-me-up is on the menu; coffee?" We instantly agree and grab our mugs. She asked if cream or sugar was needed, yet it was already on the table. We stated both were needed. She handed us menus and disappeared. Seconds later she arrived with a large sugar container and a new pot of coffee to place at our station. How perfect, we can pour whenever needed and not have to struggle with the sugar packets. Did they know we were coming? No, just providing great customer service. The variety of items starts with an egg, two pancakes, and sausage or bacon ($5.79) and ends with
The Stage Stop steak and eggs ($8.49). We look to one another for suggestions. The order is placed and the food arrives. The amount of food is great. It is prepared well and with good quality. To-go-boxes were requested as the meal came to an end. We grab the check and head to the register. We are excited about our new task--a memorial sale has our name all over it.
Getting to The Place You Want to Go
All three of these establishments are located in Mosinee. The S&S is at 313 Main Street. It is on the corner of HWY 153 and B.
