Breaking News: President Bush Speaks to the American People About His Plan to Increase Troop Levels

Tonight, on January 10, 2007, President Bush addressed the nation once again with his plan to bring victory and peace to Iraq. In his speech President Bush did not give any specifics but did say that troops levels will be increased in Iraq. These troops will most likely come from the home reserves in the U.S. army from airborne and combat units.

President Bush remained stoic as usual in his plan and did mention the counter proposals, which he of course rejected in his speech. He mentioned the plans to put U.S. troops on the Iraqi border to prevent Al-Qaeda and terrorists from coming into the country. President Bush also mentioned the Democratic plan of gradually withdrawing the troops from the region. Bush rejected both plans and claimed that such a move would increase terrorist activity and violence in the region, leading to a downfall of the Iraqi infrastructure and more time that those U.S. troops would have to spend in the region.

President Bush stated that troops levels must be increased in order to win this war. However, Bush gave no timetable or evidence that an increase in troop levels would win the war or when American troops would be brought home. Already there are 120,000 troops in Iraq and the U.S. military is being spread pretty thin.

A major part of President Bush's plan is to have Iraqi security forces working side by side the American troops so that the Iraqi forces can patrol their own country. In President Bush's speech, he stated that the Iraqi leadership has pledged to strengthen their security force with additional manpower. In President Bush's speech he thanked the nation and the families of the soldiers for dealing with the absence or loss of a loved one.

Finally, President Bush stated that America must succeed the region and serve as a landmark for the Middle East region not to harbor terrorists. President Bush mentions Lebanon and Syria as two countries that must not harbor terrorists and put the two nations on notice. President Bush also mentioned his hope for a bipartisan committee of advisors from the Senate, particularly Bush's good friend, Senator Joe Lieberman who man consider as a Democrat but ran as an Independent.

The Democratic leadership prepared a response to President Bush' speech. It will now be up to the Senate to ratify Bush's new plan to send more troops into the region.
