Breaking the Top 10,000 in Technorati

Despairing over getting your blogs ranking out of the tens of thousands on Technorati? It's possible and it doesn't take as long as you might expect, if you know a few handy techniques.

Technorati ranking is different from your authority rating. Authority only counts incoming links within the past six months, and it only includes unique websites. So, if one website links to you five hundred times, your authority will only go up one point.

However, your ranking depends on the number of incoming links, no matter where they are from. To break that top 10,000, you need a lot of links. You should be able to get there within 3-6 months if you are willing to work tirelessly and promote your blog every chance you get. Here's how to sweep your blog out of the millions and into the top 10, 000.

First, you need to provide a high quality blog on a popular niche topic. Do your research to figure out which topic you want to do. If you already have a blog, you can work with the topic you have, as long as it is not too narrow. A blog on trimming cat's claws might not be the best candidate to get into the top 10,000.

Next, you need top quality information. Don't just regurgitate the same old stuff that is everywhere else on the web. Write or hire someone to write, original, unique posts for your blog. This will keep people interested and other blogs will be more likely to link to good posts.

Give link love. This just means linking to other blogs in your posts. Where appropriate and where it will offer more value to your readers, include links to relevant blogs. These blogs will follow the trackback to find out what you are saying about them and if they like what they see, you might just get a link from them.

Comment, comment, comment. This may seem like a very time consuming chore and it is, but it is also a wonderful way to get other bloggers´ attention. Don't stick to just the big blogs, although those might bring you more traffic. Smaller blogs are more likely to link to blogs featured in their comments because they have time to read through all the comments.

Submit to directories. You may have heard that this is not a good way to get traffic. It's not. But you will get a link and there are lots of directories that have high PR, so that is an added bonus. If you submit to 5 directories a day, that is 35 new incoming links per week!

Participate in as many writing projects as possible. This really does help. Not only do group writing projects bring in scads of traffic, they are also a great way to get links from blogs you never would have found on your own. Other participants will most likely copy the article list, thus giving you a link from their blog, within a post.

Likewise, blog carnivals are an excellent way to go if you want to build up your links. You just need to submit several of those high quality posts in order to get them.

Submitting guest posts to your favourite blogs is another way to earn high quality links that will bring you traffic and raise your Technorati rating. Some blogs include contributor's guidelines in the sidebar, others may need to be contacted to find out what they are looking for.

Finally, if you really, really want to get up there in Technorati, consider buying text links. It can be worth the small amount of money that you shell out to get that coveted number. But remember, once you reach that top 10,000, you can't just sit back and relax, you will need to be continuing your linking efforts in order to stay there, because other blogs will always be coming up behind you.
