BreakThru Radio to Offer Two New Radio Shows

In a press release today, BreakThru Radio (BTR) announced that they will be added two new shows to their internet radio lineup, titled "World Hip-Hop" and "Glitch IDM."

The "World Hip-Hop" show will feature hip-hop music from around the world, hosted by a rotating group of DJs. DJ Crush Delight, the host of BTR's "Downtime" show, will host the first episode. There are also plans for DJ Santero and DJ Rascue to host the show.

"World Hip-Hop" is created by Urban Umpires. DJ Just Jay, a member of the Urban Empires production crew explains, "Hip-hop is very different worldwide. It's not about all of the bling you associate with American hip-hop. It's more of a political statement. It's a message born out of people who had no voice. It's more like old school hip-hop in other areas of the world."

Some examples of World Hip-Hop would be SOUL'd OUT from Japan, HaShevet from Israel, and Detsl from Russia.

"World Hip-Hop" will air on Sundays on BreakThru Radio.

The "Glitch IDM" show is hosted by DJ Tha Fruit Bat, and focuses on a relatively new genre of music called IDM, which stands for Intelligent Dance Music. Allmusic describes IDM as "A loaded term meant to distinguish electronic music of the '90s and later that's equally comfortable on the dancefloor as in the living room," and lists some of the most important IDM artists as Aphex Twin, The Orb, Plastikman, Autechre, Blackdog Productions, and B12 because of their position on the Warp record label. Other labels mentioned are Rising High, GPR, R&S, Rephlex, Fat Cat, Astralwerks.

Glitch is usually seen as a separate genre from IDM. Allmusic describes it so: "As computer-aided composition slowly eclipsed the traditional analog approach to crafting electronica, the palette of possible sounds soon widened immensely, resulting in the advent of the glitch style in the late '90s," and elso mentioned artists Aphex Twin and Autechre in the description, which suggests we will be seeing a lot of them on the "Glitch IDM" show, which airs on Mondays on BreakThru Radio.

BreakThru Radio's press release also boasts the station's wide variety of music among their other channels, including independent jazz, hip-hop, folk, alt-country, metal, and bhangra beats. They mention that it plays twenty-four hours, seven days a week and is spread over two dozen countries. The company claims an impressive 80 million listener figure. BreakThru radio broadcasts with a technology called UpSNAP and is accessible through most major U.S. carriers. The company lists Nextel/Sprint, Cingular, Verizon, Alltel, AT&T and T-Mobile.
