Breast Cancer Online Resources

Whether you are recently diagnosed, in treatment, or a survivor of breast cancer, there are now many excellent breast cancer resources online. In this article, we will look at some of the reliable websites that take a look at the medical aspects of the disease, including diagnosis and treatment. These websites provide a general overview of breast cancer and treatment. If you have been diagnosed with a specific type of breast cancer, try searching the internet for that as well. There may be a group that presents more detailed information for your specific diagnosis.

Breast Cancer Online Resources: Mayo Clinic

The Mayo Clinic is a well respected medical organization, and they offer a lot of information on diagnosis and treatment at their website. Search for breast cancer under their listing of diseases and conditions. They have a list of questions that you can print out and take to your first doctor's appointment. They have basic information as well as in-depth explanations of the disease. There is a tab labeled multimedia, which offers diagrams and images of breast cancer. Look for their links to other resources for more information.

Breast Cancer Online Resources: National Cancer Institute

The National Cancer Institute is a government sponsored organization that provides medical information about breast cancer and other types of cancer. The website is available in Spanish and English. It has information on breast cancer screening, prevention, the role of genetics, breast cancer clinical trials, literature, research, and statistics. In addition, many resources for coping with cancer are presented as well.

Breast Cancer Online Resources: American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is a nonprofit group aimed at helping patients, families, and health care providers deal with cancer. Online breast cancer resources include an overview of breast cancer, a detailed guide to breast cancer, and other information of interest. All of these exhibits explain the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Their profiler treatment tool helps you to put together specialized information to help you understand the treatment options available for your cancer, and what questions you need to ask your doctor.

Breast Cancer Online Resources: Susan G. Komen for the Cure

The Susan G. Komen Foundation is a patient advocacy group for breast cancer. Their online articles focus on understanding breast cancer, and its diagnosis and treatment. They have an extensive list of benign and cancerous breast conditions, risk factors that increase breast cancer, screenings and types of biopsies, types of breast cancer tumors, and the different treatments. An interesting feature at this website that I have not seen at other breast cancer patient websites is the information that they offer on complementary treatment options. This is a thorough examination of vitamins, herbs, and alternative therapies that you may wish to combine with your medical treatment. The therapies discuss their historical background, scientific evidence, and any potential benefits. Of course, these should be discussed with your doctor.

These are a few of the online resources for breast cancer that are available. Check out their recommendations for other trustworthy sources of breast cancer information, and speak to your doctor for more information.
