Breast feeding is an essential part of your child's nutrition but how can you ensure that your baby get the proper nutrition if you have to go back to work Not all companies have daycare centers for working mothers and their babies. Here are several tips that working moms can apply so they can continue to provide their new born babies with breast milk

Breast feed during breaks - If your work is close to home then you can come home to breastfeed during breaks.

Extract breast milk and store it for later feedings. The child can still receive proper nutrition even while you are working outside the home. You can use a breast pump to collect breast milk. Store the milk in the refrigerator so that your babysitter can feed it to the child later on.

If you are not able to extract milk at work, you can replace daytime feeding with formula milk. Nurse the child and breastfeed in the mornings before going to work, in the evenings and when you are at home on weekends.

Extracting breast milk with the use of a breast pump will aid in stimulating your mammary glands to produce more milk. This will ensure that you will have enough milk when feeding time comes. Pumping milk when at work will also help you deal with separation anxiety and will make you feel connected to your baby some how.

It may seem like it's a lot of work to extract and pump with a breast pump at work during breaks, but the nutritional benefits that your child will receive surely prevail over the hassles.

Here are the essential items that you would need with pumping breast milk:

  1. A breast pump - a double collection electric breast pump is most advisable for quicker and more efficient use. Try to use the pump at 2-4 hour intervals.
  2. Bottles or bags for storage - you need a sterilized container for milk storage
  3. Refrigeration - the extracted breast milk should be refrigerated so that it does not turn rancid. You can also bring a portable cooler.
  4. Breast Pads - pads are used to prevent the milk from leaking out onto your top. You may need extra pads if there is an abundant supply of your breast milk that you cannot pump out immediately.

Practice pumping breast milk for about a week before you go back to work. This way, you can get used to how to operate the machine and how it feels. Apply these tips and have peace of mind that your child is getting the best form of nutrition.
