Recently Breastfeeding has been getting more and more attention in the media. It has come to light that breastfeeding is not only on it's way back to becoming the norm when it comes to feeding, but breastfeeding is a hit among celeb mommas these days.

Celebrities know that breastfeeding burns an extra 500 calories a day. Everyone who has had a baby knows that the more passive calories we can burn the better.

Jodie Foster and Debra Messing quickly found out that breastfeeding was a surprising way to immediately lose the weight they gained during pregnancy. "I just couldn't't stop losing weight with the breastfeeding," Foster told the Daily News. "I ate as much as I possibly could, but I kept losing."

Messing realized that not only was breastfeeding the best thing for her baby but she burnt up to 1,000 calories a day. Debra Messing gained 33 pounds after that birth of her child and breastfeeding can be given at least partial credit for shed all of that baby weight after giving birth. Breastfeeding celebs are proud to let you know their accomplishments. They are happy to tell reporters or anyone else who asks that yes they do breastfeed and they love it. In fact there are a few celebrities such as Maggie Gyllenhaal and Kate Hudson have both been known to breastfeed in public.

The British edition of OK! magazine did an article on Catherine-Zeta Jones and her long time partner Micheal Douglas. Catherine is in love with being a breastfeeding momma and knows that the benefits for her babies are amazing. She told the tabloid back in 2006 that, ""I'm going to do it as long as I can . . . There is something so intimate about it. For that one hour or 45 minutes . . . it's just wonderful. It's wonderful bonding and you know they're getting those antibodies."

More celebrity mommas who chose to breastfeed include, but are not limited to: Melissa Gilbert, Melanie Griffith, Linda Kelsey, Jayne Kennedy, Katherine Ross, Laurie Metcalfe, Marilu Henner, Markie Post, Anita Baker, Gloria Estfan, Tish Hinojosa, Jerry Hall, Connie Seleca, Kathy Ireland, Joan Lunden, Jane Pauley, Roseanne, Kelly Ripa, Laura Bush, and Olympic Gold Medalist in Gymnastics Kathy Rigby.

Not only do we have a lot of famous breastfeeding mommas, but a lot of famous celebrities were breastfed themselves. Micheal Jordan's mom was no weaner. She breastfed Micheal for three whole years! The Brazilian soccer sensation Pele was breastfed for five years. Those are some talented breastfed sports stars.

Fantastic! Vonnie, the human body is designed to expect breastmilk for 2 to 7 years, so 3 and 5 is really pretty normal from a biological standpoint. And yes, it's important to point out when celebs nurse their babies, because we are such a bottle-feeding culture -- it's great to see these role models showing other moms how to do what's best for their babies AND for themselves. Bravo to them!

3 years? 5 years? In my opinion that is going a little overboard. It is great that women breastfeed if they choose to do so. I myself do not think it is such a big deal. Breasfeeding is just feeding your baby. Nobody should make a big deal out of seeing someone nurse their child.

It's great to see celebrities doing this. They are such iconic figures that many ordinary people want to mimic, so regardless of their reasons for breast feeding, they are probably setting a popular trend for mothers around the world. Great article!
