Breathe Easier in a Home Cleaned with Safe Products!

Some May Contain Bleaches, Lye and Even Formaldhyde!

Rue Cooper
Some commercial cleaners may contain ingredients that can cause nausea, vomiting, inflammation of eyes, nose, throat, respiratory system and even worse. Some are not products that you would not want your children or pets to inhale.

It's easy to make your own cleaners!

Look through the safe products that you may already have in the kitchen for ideas on new formulas. You can experiment a little with some of the products you have in your cupboard or pantry, but use caution with some. Always test homemade cleaning formulas before using. Never mix bleach with ammonia or vinegar. As always, be safe and sure of any products you mix together. Your cleaners should always be safe to use and safe for the environment.

Soft-scrub cleaner!

A soft-scrub cleaner that is quick and won't scratch can be made by whipping up a paste of baking soda and a little liquid dish detergent. This will keep a sink sparkling clean. Why not try some easy glass cleaner by mixing a few tablespoons of vinegar to 2 cups of water. Spray on windows and buff with an old crumbled newspaper.

Air-fresheners!

For a safe air-freshener, set a bowl of vinegar or baking soda around the house - out of reach of children and pets. An easy drain cleaner can be made by pouring 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain. Follow this with 1 cup of vinegar for a fizzing scrubber. Last of all, rinse the drain with hot water. Sprinkle some baking soda in the toilet bowl or use some vinegar and scrub with a soft brush. Clean the oven with a home made paste of baking soda and water. Add baking soda to the laundry to cut down the amount of detergent you will need, and save money on soap.

Need a disinfectant?

Mix 3 tbsp of liquid soap, 2 cups of water and add 20 to 30 drops of tea tree oil.

Cleaning the car?

Use a few drops of liquid castile soap in a bucket of water and wash-away for a clean car. Mix a paste of baking soda and water to clean the tires. Use a soft brush to apply, allow it to sit for awhile then rinse. What could be easier?

Keeping a happy bird!

Since birds are sensitive to some chemicals and odors it's easy to mix up a better cleaner. Use 3 cups of hot water, 3 tbsp baking soda and 2 tsp liquid grapefruit seed extract, then spray and clean. Use a clean spray bottle and not a recycled bottle that may have contained a commercial cleaner.

Keep your family and pets breathing easier in a home that has been cleaned with safe products.

With the exception of formaldehyde, I don't have a problem with cleaners containing the aforementioned substances.
