There are several virtual fish programs out there that allow you to raise fish on your desktop. Some, like Virtual Fish Tank, allow you to create and watch your sea creatures online, you share your creations with everyone else who also uses the website. Other programs are games that you install on your computer, such as Fish Tycoon, and still others are only screensavers.
The benefits of having a virtual aquarium are many. If you opt for a screensaver aquarium, you don't need to do anything to maintain your pets alive. They will stay healthy and happy all by themselves, swimming to and fro whenever you stop using your computer for a minute or two. The water in your aquarium will never need to be changed and the fish won't up and die from strange diseases that you have never heard of!
Virtual fish are just as interesting and mesmerizing to watch on the computer screen as real life ones are in the aquarium, only you need not worry about such trifling things as water temperature and acidity and whether or not your tap water has chlorine in it or not. No aeration system or expensive colored pebbles are needed, just click and enjoy!
However, some virtual fish need a little more care. If you want to be more involved in your pets“ lives, I suggest an actual computer program. Fish Tycoon, for example, allows you to breed your aquatic friends to create new species. It can be quit the adventure, but you also have to deal with things like feeding, diseases that need to be treated with virtual medicines, etc. The nice thing is that this game runs in real time, whether or not your computer is on or off. So if you go to bed for the night, leaving a handful of pregnant guppies in your virtual tank, you will have zillions of little guppies flitting around in the morning!
You can also sell your new breeds for extravagant prices, which would be nice to do in real life, too! And best of all, with virtual pets, you can go off for a two week vacation without having to hire anyone to look after them! They will be alive and well when you get back home!
It is pretty impossible to kill a virtual fish. You would have to either delete the program that it lives in, or introduce a virus onto your computer. All in all, desktop guppies are far more hardy than their real life counterparts.
So, if you just can't handle a real world pet, why not go virtual and start up a virtual fish tank today?
